You can get a water pump like that from ZZ Performance in the states.

You wont be able to run a timing belt with the ecotec for the following reasons.
    1. you wont be able to see it cause the front cover will hide it.(not really a reason why you wont be able to do it, just wont see it.)
    2. the oil that it will be bathed in from inside the engine will #### the belt in a matter of weeks.
    3. WHY ? WHATS THE POINT, the timing chain setup is far superior.

    My 2 cents

    correct.

incorrect. the timing belt is superior, the only thing the chains are better for is life expectancy. the timing belts absorb harmonics from the engine and prevents then transferring to the valve train. the only down side is that you need to replace it a little more often but with it been outside the timing cover that isn't a major issue.

you will also see these are available for the chev V8 engines.

in reality these are race spec items, with these belt set ups you have vernier adjustments available for the cam timing etc

if you check the pic in the first post you will see that it is infact for a Holden 308/304 engine.

thanks immortality... i was about to rant something similar before i read your post

i know that one is a design that fits a holden 5l... but my question is do they make them for the ecotec? would a 350 chev item fit? i have no idea about the block layout on an ecotec (im yet to play with one on a stand) but i know the original blocks were basically a cut down v8...

if they dont make one to fit then im just going to either modify one or make up a plate from alloy and buy the pulleys and throw it all together

as far as i know no one makes em to suit the V6 engines. it would be difficult to replicate on a V6 because the oil pump is part of the timing cover

how about something of a dry sump system with some sort of external oil pump?

that would solve that issue? wheres the main oil feed after the pump?

yeah, a dry sump pump would solve that issue. oil feed is into the into the side of the timing cover which then feeds into the front of the block.

Google "meziere" in the US, and look on their site for GM 3.8L V6 water pumps.
They are the only ones I know of that do a bolt in replacement electric water pump for the V6

yeh i found the meziere jobbies... thats just the thing though its a direct bolt in replacement. it bolts to the stock water pump position on the stock timing case cover.

thing is though... if im gonna run the timing belt, the timing case cover isnt going to be there.. and the belt will be exposed. therefore i need a water pump that will clear the timing belt. i could run a davies craig system with thermos and a temp switch. but i like the look of the ones as shown in the picture above

Sounds like you already got all the answers you figure it out.
    Again
what a waste of everything, spend thousands on a dry sump setup, custom timing belt setup, custom water pump all just to do the same kob as all the factory gear does right now, you wont be making anymore power................................

i realise that it won't make much more power by doing all this... So why do i wanna do it? Cos i can. I wanna eventually build a blown stroker with crazy boost running E85 all day and if i'm building a crazy race engine i wanna put all the bells and whistles on it too... Then open the bonnet and just say... wow
