Im going to get a catback with a single muffler and was looking at just putting the muffler on at the end of the exhaust instead of the center with straight pipe after it.
Apparently this is supposed to cut out alot of the drone?? But will it make it quiter aswell??
Does it really matter where you put your muffler on your exhaust??
Will probably be louder in the car.
And yes, it does matter where they go.
Ah thats goodloudness doesnt bother me, aslong as it doesnt sound like an excel with a cannon haha.
In my understanding, there is resonance at different rpm.. as revs rise the resonance moves further down the pipe. That's why 'they' put mufflers or resonators at different points in the exhaust.
You'll probably get more drone or gurgle with less mufflers/resonators.
(pet hate.. honda's with raspy gurglie exhausts)
For my Ute with a very decent cam (.500" 220-230 @ .50"), ported heads, 10:1 c/r, 3000rpm Hi stall and Pacemaker headers - I won't bother with resonators close to the engine.
It'll be twin 2" to a good merge into 2 1/2" into a good straight thru muffler, over the diff into a straight thru .. Or twin 2 1/4" into 3" .. haven't decided that one yet
Any thoughts guys?![]()

Single centremount on a 2.5 catback here.
Okay sorta changed my mind.
Want to get 2.5" with just a hotdog.. Now im assuming this would be LOUD.. which is what i want.. but i dont want it to sound bad... ive seen so many videos and sound clips of bad v6 exhausts
Would putting the hotdog in the centre or at the rear sound better?? Anybody done this??
By the way i've got stock manifolds and cat

Does anybody have any idea whether a hotdog in the centre or at the back sound better???
This is with hotdog at the back, and high flow muffler at the centre, all 3" extractors and no cat. Awful qaulity due to cellphone but you should get a idea.
