    Default Ecotec underdrive pulley kit

Heard about a under-drive pulley kit that replaces some pulleys and belt and gives u about 15 kw, anyone know or hears anything about it?

i doubt you would gain 15kw... 5kw sounds about right..
i havent seen these for the ecotec but it would definately be a good modification to do if you can find a place that makes them.. especially if you drive at high rpm all the time it will save your alternator and power steering pump etc.. from wearing out from spinning at such high rpm all the time..

no such thing as a under driven harmonic balancer for the ecotec/buick V6 range. you can get some over sized pulleys for the accessories though (alternator, water pump and power steering). i know they claim some big numbers on under driven pulleys for the alloytec's and LS series motors but i don't think you will see that much on a V6

they will slow down the speed of the accessories , so yes it will reduce the amount of power they consume. how much exactly is hard to say but i don't think it will be anywhere near 15kw

OP is this a road car or a track car?

I personally would want my power steering, power brakes, air-con, water pump, and alternator spinning at proper speeds when driving.

under driven is fine on a road car, hell on the LS motors you can get balancers that are 25% under driven. vac for the brakes comes from manifold vacuum so no issues there. sometimes at idle the alternator may struggle a little to maintain full voltage but at cruising rpm it should be fine, same with the waterpump, it may heat up just a little faster when idling but once your cruising again it should be fine.

Mass produced (pressed steel/straight vane) water pump impellers are inefficient at high rpm anyway.
Under driving the accessories reduces parasitic drag.
Doesnt 'make' hp, just reduces load on the crank a little.

I know Intense racing do a electric waterpump which would free up some hp..
ZZP do a undersize alternator pulley and undersize waterpump pulley and electric waterpump

Them Clarko's look mint.. wonder if we could orgamanize a group buy? Mace?

only the hub for the supercharger is 5% overdriven. so it spins the charger faster. gives about a extra 1psi on a otherwise stock engine.

i'll mention it to steve about maybe setting up a group buy for pulleys.

If we get enough numbers would could make them ourselves. However the price that Clarko has got the pulleys for is pretty good.

Isn't the 5% Overdrive just for the front (supercharger) belt and the accessory is stepped down to normal speed?
I had one of those on my turbo wagon motor.. aren't they heavier than stock?

I'm building a NA motor for my Ute and at the moment and am thinking to replace the Rocker covers, the stock Harmonic balancer and accessory pulleys..

Group buy being organised.. who's keen?

    I'm keen on oversize ones

And also what goes on with the belt if the pulleys are 20% larger?

the answer here is yes, a longer serpentine belt is required. however he didn't know exactly how much longer because most of the people using these pulleys are in the speedway scene who tend to customise things to suit there needs and probably wouldn't be the same as what we would need.
