Hi all,
What happens when a VN V6 spins a cam bearing??? Does this cause low oil pressure / engine failure? What are the symptoms?
Thanks in advance.
what makes u think its a cam bearing? if you dont mind me asking
Essentially, the oil feed hole to the bearing will no longer align, the bearing will run dry due to no oil supply and become very coarse and completely flog it out with the cam basically floating around quite a bit. In doing so this will bugger the cam bearing journal and the bearing on the cam itself. This in itself should not be the cause of low oil pressure. A flogged cam bearing will be very noisy and rattly.
This is not uncommon in the early buick v6's. The reason being that that cam bearing tunnels were never line bored from factory, but rather two journals were bored in from each end. Naturally, the tinyest error results in cam bearing misalignment which they suffer from. This can promote a bearing to spin.
I threw a rod in my S1 V6 and when I pulled it down I noticed the cam bearing oil holes in the middle 2 cam bearings, the oil holes had moved about a quarter of the way around. The big end bearing was blue and melted so I was just wondering if this was because the oil couldn't get to it cause the cam bearing oil holes had moved.
