Hey everyone, im in the process of getting a stage 2 ecotec V6 reconditioned engine from SRE engines in Melbourne for my 97 VS commodore sedan.
The guy that builds them recommends getting a 2500 RPM high stall with it if sticking auto. I was thinking about getting a stage 2 shift kit and the high stall but just got a quote from my only local auto trans builder, in Bunbury WA, found out about him through this site, and he quoted me $3300 JUST for the shift kit and to rebuild the trans, not even for the high stall.. So I wasnt very impressed...
What I want to know is is there any cheaper way I can go about getting a high stall put into the trans? Im not too fussed about the shift kit. And does anyone know any good cheap shops in WA, Perth or further south that will do this? Would even consider buying a trans from anywhere in aust if they would courier it and is ready to stick a high stall in...?
Thanks in advance.

ROFL that's alot for a shift kit.. ALOT!
for that sort of coin i would expect a bullet proof 4l60e trans.
to fit a decent high stall converter, remove trans, pull out old converter, fit new converter and re-fit trans.
If your going to pull the trans out to fit a High stall you may as well fit a shift kit or at the least a corvette servo which will be piss easy with the trans out of the car

who is going to fit the reco engine?
seeing as the trans will be out of the car anyway it won't cost anything extra if someone is fitting the engine/trans for you for them to pull the old converter out and slide a new high stall in

#### that i would do it myself even if i didnt know how lol
guys a scammer and playing you like a fool
Without knowing what parts he would re-build your trans with and what brand shift kit he would use, I wouldn't be saying that's a rip off just yet. Get him to in detail write up a quote with parts that will be used in the re-build, as his quote may have been for a very good gearbox.

that guy knows hes shit heard great stuff from him
That price was for a full recon, strengthened gearbox with corvette servo and stage 2 shift kit fitted. Something that will "last" apparently as this guy reckons 90% of the people putting shift kits in are doing a dodgy job that will just shit itself down the track anyway. apparently it isnt hard to make one of these transmissions shift hard, its making them last is the key.. But I dont know
since then ive found another place that will build me a recon stage 2 trans with corvette servo for 1400 including freight so im happy with thatcheers for your help
You see right there where the original guy said that he would build a strengthened gearbox that will last, that's why it was so much.
The second price will be for a very basic rebuild with the cheaper parts.
