Finally got my ported heads fitted a couple of weekends ago.
Pretty happy with them. Haven't had them dynoed yet to see what sort of gain I got, but will get around to it soon. Seat of the pants it feels like the biggest gain of any mod i've done.
Theres a hill on the way home that I always have the cruise control set for. 3/4 the way up it used to drop down a gear, now it comes over in top.
Only slight complaints are it seems louder for some reason, and after a long drive we stopped for fuel. When I restarted it hunted in the revs at idle like a vacuum leak or something. I hope it was all put back together properly.
If you hadnt got it tuned it just might be the computer adjusting to it... just a geuss cause im not an expert but it seems pretty common when you start adjusting air flow into the engineWhen I restarted it hunted in the revs at idle like a vacuum leak or something. I hope it was all put back together properly.
Yeah thats what I was thinking.
I've gone that far now maybe I need a custom tune
Hey mate good to hear that you got them put in finally, did you go to that bloke in Queanbeyan or did you go somewhere else?
I'm thinking that a tune would set them off very well you should have a look into doing that. Depending on what sort of tune you want I know a place that might do one for a decent price.
VT V6 fitted with: Powerdyne supercharger, DMS coilovers, AP Racing 4pot 330mm brake upgrade, True-Trac LSD with 3.45:1 diff gears, some weight reduction and more!
Yeah, took em back to that bloke you took them too and he fixed the valve issue. Then the guy next door fitted them for me. Found a hose under the throttle body that had been put on, but the clamp hadn't been slid over it and tightened. Looks to have fixed my eratic idling issues, so now i'm really happy.
I thought gentech was the only one in canberra who could do custom tunes, who else do you know? Would be keen if the price was right.
There is Autotech in Hume. They don't do real time dyno tunes, but they do run your car on the dyno then send the info off to chip torque to get a tune to suit your mods.
It's the next best thing to real time dyno tuning, it's better than a mail order tune as they see what air fuel ratios you are running and send the info off to be perfected.
When I got a price it was less than $700.

Might go have a chat to them. Their the ones who dynoed my car when they were in Fyshwick. Better than the $1300 gentech are charging. Want to port my plenum and get twin high flow cats, then im ready for a tune.
Just went to Sydney for the weekend, i'd say my fuel economy has improved 10% as well. Did 600k's and still got 1/4 tank on the gauge. Fueled up just before leaving, car was cold and it did the same thing as last time I put fuel in it. Revs yoyo from 1200 to 500 for 10 seconds after you fuel up then settle down. Only does it straight after fueling up, so I have a little mystery problem to sort out.
