Heyguys I'm rebuilding a ecotec and I have a new cam and double row timing chain from MACE now I'm a bit stuck on how it all goes back together and how I get the timing right on it any help would be greart thanks guys
please get a service manual...theres proper instructions in there with pictures of how it lines up..... not something you want to be guessing how to do
hmmmm ok I get how to put it all back together now but on the new rollmaster the crank sprocket has like 6 different ways you can put it on all with numbers and how to I find out if number one is at TDC?
slide the keyway slot marked 0 onto the crank keyway then line up the 0 on the sprocket tooth to the dot on the cam sprocket. then go buy a degree wheel and dial gauge and degree the cam to the specs on the cam card that should come with the cam Sole Purpose of Degreeing Your Cam - Kelford Cams heres a how to on degreeing the cam
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
Bloody hell you're gain mate, don't even know how to tell when Piston 1 is at TDC and you are trying to install a new cam. To tell if Piston 1 is at TDC, take out spark plug number one (Will be the one on the passenger side at the front) then put like a long piece of metal in where you took you're spark plug out, manually turn you're Harmonic balancer until you feel Piston 1 at TDC, when Piston 1 is at TDC you know Piston 4 will be as well.
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
Thank you heaps for that should the sprocket fit easy onto the crankshaft or do you have to bash it on lol
well there is only one way to learn mate and thats to spend a shit load of cash and build a motor from scratch and learning from your mistakes witch also cost you cash lol
i admire your atitude cause i wouldnt be doing that but wouldnt you want to read up as much as you can first??well there is only one way to learn mate and thats to spend a shit load of cash and build a motor from scratch and learning from your mistakes witch also cost you cash lol
I'm assuming you have a Rollmaster chain? They are the chain to use IMO but do sometimes have a tight fit on the crank. You can linish the inside of the crank sprocket a tad to allow it to fit on the crank easier. There's nothing wrong with forcing the crank sprocket on but it can get stick making it difficult to remove if needed later. Difficult, not impossible

Yea I have a rollmaster chain its bloody tight I tell ya even bashing on it with a mallet wont make it budge that far on the crank shaft. I did read somewhere that there is 3 different crank IDs or something and they had to send out the right size sprocket
Always fit the sprocket with a large deep socket to ensure it goes on square and yeah, a little sanding on the inner is the way to go

Would heating the sprocket up and cooling down the shaft help? (much like how you fit a dowel in a hole)....???
