Hi all,
Im building up a mild L67 for my VK and im wondering how well the old T5 will handle it, iv been reading mixed views on strength, some saying they break, other saying if being abused they break like when flat shifting but will be fine otherwise. Any one had any experience with them? Im contemplating going a T56 but the setups are really expensive and i already have the VK setup for a T5.
I dont abuse my car but i dont wont the gearbox failing when i give it some on the odd occasion.
Cheers Ben!

it has been done and works well
For a mild built that isn't 'thrashed' daily it'll handle it fine.
Cheers
Sweet sounds promising, well i think i will run the T5 and if it does break ill go down the T56 route.
Cheers Ben
i got a mate making 285rwkw turbo 6 with a t5 if he treats it nice it wont break

I have heard second gear is usually what goes in them. The V8 T5 has a taller first gear and a shorter input shaft.
There are mods you can do to make them a little tougher, a billet retainer plate and shimming the bearings tighter - google it![]()

as above the v6 t5 has a longer input shaft and shorter 1st gear. from what ive seen the box is fine as long as its not being flat shifted, also i hear slamming 3rd gear in particular is not a good idea
This is good news, ill definitely run with it.
Thanks guys!
