Hi everyone, first of all my apologies if i have stared this thread in the wrong place .
My old wagon has had better days 340000 ks running duel fuel .
Well this year for xmas my old girl asked me for a new motor when it decided to let go , sounded like half a dozen marbles in a milo tin getting tossed about in the dryer
Anyway to the point i have spent a lot of $$$$ making this wagon look as sexy as it dose and its far to nice to tow out the farm and park under a tree.
Thismorning i bought a brand new conditioned long motor as standard and looking now to improve it so it not all show with no go...
Is it possible to pull 150-160 kws at the wheels with out turbos or surcharges , any ideas will be great , what has worked for you cash flow is no prob but keeping in mind my daughter will drive this car 2
For the amount of coin you'll spend getting that power n/a, you could buy a Raptor kit and get 200 kw at the wheels. And it will be more fuel efficient and better behaved.
There is a bloke on this forum that has got 217RWKW from his N/A V6.
It is possible to get 150RWKW put a big cam in, shaved and ported heads and all your normal bolt on's and you should see 150 with a kalmaker tune to top it all off.

I got 148rwkw with only a mild cam, and some headwork. Engine was all rebuilt so its fresh too.
I have the smallest bumpstick here, COMP Cams to suit V6 Ecotec - Mace Engineering Group , so the stage 2 or 3 should see more power.

First up I know gilbs his car is sickhe was my only real competition in v6 dyno days..
Second up sorry, you don't need half that crap just a good smart well matched engine...
My vx I just cold had:
Mace 1:98 rockers
Mace lower manifold insulater
Mace cooler thermostat
Hurricane extractors
Twin ls1 cats
Single custom 2.5 inch cat back
GOOD SAFE kalmaker tune
MRC PERFORMANCE twin throttle body manifold (the secret ingredient!)
Upgraded leads plugs etc etc
In a nice fresh (not rebuilt) motor
It pulled 150 odd kw and that was b4 Mrc performance upgraded the manifold design!

That engine bay looks smickkk mate!! Love the dual intake manifold! Any heat soak problems?
Kuzman's Supercharged SV6 - MACE TUNED
Yea was my pride and joy
The dyno graph shows the worst recorded heat soak from stone cold to really hot.

It's what 5 shy? Come back when it's raining and not 35 and it will be...
Or as said have the new style linkages from Mrc and be able to advance your timing some more..
Should I mention Trans was slipping? Had it fixed two weeks after...
Not arguing just pointing out its not necessary to do head work etc or cam. Don't get me wrong that'l help but it's not needed.

All my mods with a new tune should get me 150-155 since my tune as the moment is wellllll off.
But:
Crow Cam lifters
Crow cam 105 springs
Valve retainers
Rollmasters double row timing chain with balance gear disabled
Stage 2 Comp Cam
Pacemaker extractors
2.5" inch exhaust
MACE Cold air intake
MACE 12mm Spacer
MACE 25mm Manifold insulator.
MACE 69mm Throttle Body
Manual Conversion with HD Clutch + single plate flywheel
Alot of it isn't needed, but it's reassurance the main engine components won't die on me. (besides my cam bearings :S)
On my current tune it was 132RWKW as auto, so as manual should do 135RWKW+, then I'm going a Kalmaker mafless tune to get 150RWKW+ no doubt..
Getting it isn't cheap, but if you can fit it all yourself will save you a bit.
Roughly like $3500 or so with a tune... Not including the manual though. That's very rough though, i got difference prices on stuff than normal so I can't calculate it all.
EDIT: Not to sound like a prick, but my car would flow better than that twin throttle body setup.. You've got all the hot heat from the engine, well twice as much to be logical when a single one straight behind the headlight would be better airflow, it's direct and colder.
Pretty much what mine will be, except ill have flat tops and my twin tb on the lid with a mafless. No i dont mean that shit you see on ebay, mine was custom fabed so its a flat lid, deleted side tb with 2 70mm tbs with a old school carby twin filter type set up out of the bonnet. Oh will also get the exhaust ports matched to the extractors.

Not a prick at all bud, I don't mind.
You are correct in theory..
I thought the same but honest man 4hp from stone cold (so what you'll have with your set up) and absolute max heat is nothing. It's suprising how little difference it made. I guess we all forget plenty of big hp carby cars all have exposed under bonnet filters..
So kinda doubt it.
Oh and I thought the pic was obvious but mine was a kalmaker mafless tune also...
I think for me that was half my power right there as I got a really good tune from same guy who tunes ruf 231 ( the hypo v6 above mentioned)
Either way as a few have shown that for below 5k you can easily get 150rwkw from a v6 with a SMART WELL DESIGNED combo.

Well my car should be making around 130-130+rwkw now with a slipping auto. That has been done with only $2709 of mods!
The thing is though we can all throw around figures, but they really are worthless without a quarter mile time and trap speed behind them.

^^ fair comment.. unfortunately living in SA "they lame state" i never had access to a quarter when i had the car so dynos were all i had sorry..
just trying to give the OP prospective.
besidesven quarters can be skewed with set ups by things like dif gears tyres etc..

Yea, im sorta woried about that, but with the TBs face down the runners the throttle should be pretty responsive as no piping in the way, air has a clean path to the runners and the plenum will hold the extra air it needs to be booted of the line, this is my theory, im yet to discuss with some people in the know how about this design.

^^ id do just that and chat mate...
a-70mm have a tendency to crack due to bore being to thin. (some disagree, some say its happened to them. you choose)
b- my two stockers tbs on the mrc set up were PERFECT and any bigger woulda sucked bad.
your call man plenum size etc will affect this so its not a blanket rule just a friendly "heads up"

Id recommend talking to some of the guys that race these engines in the saloon car class at your local track I no there putting down figures in excess of 260 rwhp with very minimal work. Although now days in most states there running E85 they still got rather large figures from surprisingly stock engines bar cam, pistons, deck height, ecu, exhaust, ect from pump fuel

Yes, I agree.
I use it having 2 knowns (weight and trap speed) then have a look at power and lastly e.t in a perfect world scenario.
Fresh engine, Roller rockers 1.8+, healthy trans, good filter and cai, free flowing exhaust and a good tune. should be well on your way to the 140~ zone.
