sounds interesting, will be watching with a keen eye.
anyone interested stay tuned over the next week i will be putting targa roofs of 300zx into my vt
thanks to one of jc's clever lads he has give me sneek preview of the mission
hinterland, sounds like a very ambitious project. have you spoken to an engineer about this? just wouldnt want to see a fellow JC member carve his ride up for nothing. i hope it happens for you!
ecotec maniac i am a engineer ive been panelbeater over 35 years and coach and body builder so i can do this project without a problem at all.but i will say this now DONT ANY OF YOU TRY THIS AT HOME WITHOUT ADULT SUPPERVISION thanks for bringing that up but i really couldnt see anyone attacking ther lovely ride with angle grinder as i do.
lol, gets mental image of hinterland holding an angle grinder leting loose with evil laughter
Good luck with the project man, from what i have seen you modify you wont need it.
But definitely post up the targa top install, would be very interesting to see how you went about it.

well through spanner in works the 300zx targas are to big for the commodore as the 280z i also measured up so looks like ill make the whole thing myself.ordered a sheet of lexon (like perspex but stronger and flexable for glass) one tube of polyuethene (windscreen grade) 6 metre length of 25x25x25 bye 3mm thick alloy and 2x trusty 1mm cutting disks for a 4inch grinder so when it comes which will be wednesday ill intoit.
the plan is to draw a nise size outline of the targa section allowing enough room for the header panel (which is the hidden panel that runs along screen to give strengh )which will be about 125 mm back from the screen.the end of the targa will finish level at where the back of the door glass is' as the top of the door frame will be eventualy cut of and the glass will seat into the targa at the top.(we hope)
when marked out i will cut the whole section out even the the section that the door closes into as this bit will be used as part of the targer and beafed up to handle 2x locks to lock into position.the lexon will start from the bit the black mould runs into on the vt roof.
ill leave it at that so i dont confuse anyone to much until i got pics to tell the story.
Cheers..yeap pic's worth a thousand words..
yeah mate, just understand that i wasnt being critical at all, but i must ask, what sort of engineer are you?Originally Posted by hinterland

What a cool idea!! Gotta see this when its all finished. Good luck with it all and dont slip while your cutting it all up!
looks like a good project but my honost opinion it looks like an abortion on a 4 door car,
you'd obviously have to make the windows frameless, however having said this i think the monaro would be a perfect car for this conversionor just buy a supra *runs and hides*
