Default Buick Vn-Vr engine build pictures.

This is my vp motor i built 3 times....due to a faulty cam shaft which was breaking lifters so if it looks like the motor changes colours or anything in the pics well it prob is a differnet time the specs are.
    acl race pistons and rings
    wade cam 992a
    bored hone 40 thou
    arp rod bolts
    poslished crank
    acl bearings
    roll master timing chain
    new gaskets,seals
    new lifters
v8 throttle body, smoothed out right angle bit.
k-line valve guides, new stem seals, slight shave,3 angle valve seats and home porting job
    blue printed by duggans blancing
    thats about it i think.
motor had done 158 000 km and came from a wreck i brought having a motor that was in very good nick saved me money down the track.

i built it all my self and has been a good learning expereince even though it broke down twice due to a faulty cam which was a horrible depression expreince, but i managed to rebuild each time.
the first motor lasted about 50km untill i had to remove it due to a bad water leak at the back of the motor and sump gasket leaking when i took it out there was metal through out from 2 broken lifters so bearings dead bore marked pistons damaged cam damgaed. i brough a bunch of stuff 2nd which was the reason why it failed due to faulty parts froma dodgy bloke. i got a block cam crank and pistons rings bearing etc of him. so i used them but when they were damaged i used my other block whihc came from the wreck i brought. then i gave it all to duggans blancing who did a great job. but after putting it all together the engine had a loud tick(aka death tick) so i didnt run it long about 5-10mins. and remove the manifold to find two lifters stuck. that lead to the motor coming out again. this time pistons were damaged once again scrathed skirts bore damage bearings were okay due to short running time and damaged cam. any way i took the cam back to the people who fixed it the 1st time and asked them what the story was as they said the cam was right and ready to run in my motor and it wasnt after the fixed it from the 1st motor they were really good about it and replaced the cam set of lifters and pain to have the bore cleaned up. i brought new pistons this time as they had small bits of metal stuck in the skirts so new pistons and fitting which left me out of pocket once again and the guy who fitted the pistons to rods ****ed up the bearings by throwing them in a box and them hitting each other. i took the crank down to Pro heads and had them poslish it once again and new rods bearings and whacked it together once more.
and it is still going after 1000km so i am wrapped. it makes good power maybe a little too much for a L plater but i love it.iv only now started to give it some and at about 1/2 - 2/3 throttle at about 50km it squeals the wheels !. and heres a few pics of it getting put together if any one wants any other pictures i can get them. it still runs stock series one headers but in to a 2.5" i will be doing something about that soon. it also has a doctor bob chip to make it run right.

nice rebuild... too bad about the sticky lifters. by any chance did you replace the rocker arms at the same time or were the originals used?

Oh this is terrible why didn't anyone tell me the VP manifold looks like that those runners must be an inch longer than the VN's (chucks a wobbly). Now I have to go and buy some VP heads and a VP manifold before I make my next design because that's a much better manifold to start with.

Cracker, great thread by the way : )

lifters werent sticky the cam shaft lobes were to thick. so say number one valve was opening it would be hit number two valves lifter as it came past turning it around and deathhhh.

you should get it dyno'd im curious to see what it pulls...

as for poles... when im sideways they seem to be trying to ram me on my doors...
how much did u spend on the performance parts all up???

i imagine being a L plater your fairly youngish, so this would have taken all your pocket money lol....

i will dyno it one day need to do something about headers first. how muhc i spent all up i lost count ages ago. to DIY it ur self im guessing about $3500? i dunno pends where u buy ur stuff and what u have done.
as for my pockets, yes they were sold too fund it.
what i did was i brought a wrecked car which i sold parts off to fund the build and used its motor. car cost me 900 all up to get it home vp vactioner and i sold about 850 worth of parts and kept the motor, gearbox, diff and everthing from inside.
