id like to know from all experiences here wat cold air induction kit gives teh most kws to a v6 money is no issue i just wanna know which is the best overall
i don't think there is any better than the other, the only real way to improve kws would be buy a v8 or turbo/super charge the beast
new ****ed up laws i cant own a superchargered turbo or v8 hence teh reason for v6 mods !
indeed, i sort of knew that, well welcome to the club, i am the same, there's really nothing we can do but sit it out, i've only got 2 years and 4 months to go. but you will apreciate it alot more.
i dont see the need to go to v8 with my run about work ute if i buy a new car most probly be a v8 if i do anything to this engine wise would be 4.2 stroker kit or a side mount belt driven supercharger
what sort of commo are u enquring about anyway?
vu ute 02 white 5 speed
From what I have seen and read you are only talking very minor improvement (if any), but I reckon the home made extra snorkel that feeds from below the bumper would be just as effective if not more than the SS inductions set, all for a few dollars in PVC pipe and fittings!
Not sure where the thread is although someone posted a neat instruction with plenty of photos included.
Maybe add to that a K&N filter and you won't do much better.
Right on the money brutha!! Why pay $400+ for something you can bang up yourself with $10 of pvc pipe. The performance improvement you'll get from the $10 job is worth the $10; the performance improvement you'll get from the $400+ job is still only worth $10. Its a very minimal, next to unnoticeable kw gain, especially on a standard V6.
Heres the thread - Homemade air duct (with pics)

if money is no issue and youre after performance, get some diff gears
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
just get the standard supercharged V6 cold air intake from holden
Start by keeping your current CAI and buying an intake tube from a VN-VR V6 (the long plastic one about $10-30 from the wreckers) and cutting a round hole into the bottom side of the airbox next to your current snorkel and fitting the elbow end into it and trimming off the bottom so that it doesn't stick down too far. This is the same but smaller (75mm v 110mm) as the Yella Terra one. or do it out of plumbing PVC (the factory maybe smaller but it looks factory and is cheap.
Have a look at these sites:

plus:
you could upgrade the snorkel to a VT HSV one as well or use one of the aftermarket ones but they are expensive (SS Iductions or Aunger).

here is the plan im buying a ss induction kits maken it wider and useing that but as well as that im doing a home job i plan on getting a vz front end of a v8 super car for it so where the opening is at the front ill tig weld some stainless steel and make a scope and run piping to the bottom of my air filter so ill have the factory plus a home job, that means hell of alot of air in there lol plus in the front end there are two lil fins which direct some air to teh front brakes win win whicheva way u look at it

good point yes but when its a stock v6 with 157 kw 3 kw is not bad sure if it was a supercharged 8 who gives a f*uck. i will also get a v6 wide throttle body so i can get all that air in there but i have head mixed reviews on these wide bodys wanna give some feed back? also u say 3 kws but doesnt a standard induction kit give u a lil more than 10 kws ? plus the mods i plan to do would be even more ?
i can honestly justify spending a couple of hundred for a genuine cai and less than a hundred for a custom kit for 15 kws or so
cheers chris

SS Inductions state pretty high figures, but I have never seen it proven properly, and from my own experiences with CAI's they dont make that much difference on a stock car. They will make a difference but...yeah.
A throttle body is best for throttle response, with some power to be gained (again little). If you are after speed, diff gears and a shiftkit wont add power but are pretty good bang for your buck quarter mile and speed wise.
Also roller rockers, exhaust and extractors will give you a very nice boost in power too.
my performance mods are going to be wide throttle body custom cai exhaust and extractors rockers are on the list as well plus a few things like 81 thermastat from fit and also exhaust heat sheild.
who wants me to dyno my car befor and after installing a normal cai and than again after my custon mods ?
my custom cai mods wont be done until i get the vz front end so might be a lil while
Yeah dyno it if you can afford to man. $60 or so for a power run normally![]()
lets see the dynos, im sure heaps of people would be interested
I have put an ss induction kit on my vn, which they cliam gives 8rwkw. I didnt notice a big differance until I did other work to help her breath. I have done k&n filter, 65mm throttle body, honed out the elbow from the throttle body to the plenum & custom exhaust, now with all of that combined I have noticed a power & torque increase.
i had big throttle on mine, much more responsive and felt faster, but it fu*ks up the auto transmission shift points and it never wants to kick down a gear unless you give it heaps of throttle which gets annoying. i was getting into 3rd gear at 30ks with the big throttle. but if you have manual your lucky and it would be a great mod.
i heard theres a place that modifys the big throttle so it doesn't screw up your shift points. im gonna find out and get mine modifyed soon. i have my standard one on atm cause of the **** the big one causes.
Would a cold air intake have a more noticeable difference on a SC 6 than it would on the standard car?
