    Default v6 rebuild

gday everyone, i dont actually own a commodore but i am currently researching about commodore v6's for my hilux 4x4. Im just looking for a few suggestions, like whether i should go an ecotec or the vn or vp 3.8, im gonna keep it naturally aspirated but im after a fair bit of horsepower. i have contacts where i can get the motor for a carton but it would need a rebuild, i was thinking of running a high compression set up, like flat top pistons mild cam port and polish, i can pretty much do the rebuild myself as i have some experience in rebuilding engines (cough gemini cough) but im just after a rough price for parts. and was also looking for some testemonials from people running a similar set up in there street commodores. how much would it cost for a full rebuild kit back to standard to?

Your probly looking at about a grand for a rebuild kit. If you want more power you can always run a stroker kit, there about 2.5k

minimum $7k for the engine just by itself with the parts you want. looking at around 210-230rwhp depending on the cam size, compression used and how far you go with the heads. it'll have some really punchy torque though

Sir Cruize, wouldnt he be saving a coupla grand by getting the strocker kit and not the short block already built tho?

Best bet would probly be to buy a low km wreck coz thats gonna have all the electronic gizmos that the ecotec or even the buick motor needs to run.

yeah, that depends...most likely no. unless he can do all the labour and machining, or can get machining done cheap (like a mate or something) the short block is actually pretty good value for $4500 outright, delivered (as opposed to i think its $2500 just for the kit, which has crank, rods and pistons).
you get a choice of cam to go with it and then all you need is some heads and a tune.
