yer betta make sure its running right, not spitting anything out lol that'd be great for traction! ha Wouldn't mind running mine down the strip. never done it before![]()
Haha slip sliding all the way down there!
Yeah I've wanted to go down the drags for a while now, but didnt want to take the thrashed auto six down there lol, is yours a manual? it could be interesting seeing what times you could get..
Im waiting till I get the VH sorted out, then take it down for some track fun, followed by a drag or two..
yer mines a manual it'd get flogged lol but would be interesting. once I get me poly air bags in the back ill have a crack, appartly when you pump them up as high as you can 40psi or something its real rigid in the rear so no squat? betta take off yer?
gotta practice me burnouts to lol don't want to embarrass meself trying to do a strap ha. can grab 2nd and spin for about 5 - 7 metres with no brakes so gotta try it with brakes!!![]()
Haha, sounds like an expensive hobby - driving around doing burnouts all the time!!! LOL, should be good fun but, throw some stockies on the back (cheaper rubber) and go nuts.. the sedan goes alright once you get it going, but only one wheel!
Ahh yeah, those poly bags for extra load, etc, do they allow you to adjust the ride height any?? Im not 100% sure but a dude I used to work with was saying softer in the rear is better for launching? helps stops wheelspin - through sagging gently to absorb the shock? but not too sure on that one..
When i head to the drags i whack on either a set of old steelie 15" rims or the old s pack rims that came with the ute and smoke em up - 15" rubber is cheaper than 19" by far. i generally have my arse handed to me but it's still good fun. Generally i have the normal rims in the tray just above the rear wheels so i have a bit more weight in the back, but i doubt it does much.
I'm redesigning my exhaust system at the moment - 4 2.25" pipes, one running to each side coming out of the skirts maybe - these will be straight through after the cats which will be controlled by electronic cut off valves so they're closed on the road, and the other two for road use. sounds pretty overkill for the drags but i reckon i'll be happy...
Is that a 10.5?? whats been done to the car? stock? auto?, thought you would have got a quicker time than that, my mates stock vn would pull a 10.2.
~ VN POWER ~ Click the scales
yer do little ones with the 19's (there nearly finished) but have organised with a few boys this weekend for some stockies to be made available to fry!![]()
As for the air bags I think they can lift it a little bit probably an inch max maybe but yer spose I can experiment with them pumped up and delated right down, see which works best!
Sounds good about this exhaust your making lol let me know how it turns out!
Oh and dont the VN's have a different motor? that could explain something maybe![]()
Haha, make me one too while you're there!!
Yeah they have a buick motor, similar but not the same.. plus they are like 300+ kilos lighter...
ute's got a bodgy cai, exhaust and rockers - nothing special. i need to get some better rubber as i'm spinning for about 50m of the track..
Hey guys,
I'm a newby here, just got my 2005 VZ Ute and was looking at possibly getting a new exhaust system. I was originally looking for a cat back with a good sound, so i was aiming around Lukey or Redback.
After 'white vyII' suggested an SS system to me for around $50 i got excited.
So i was just wondering, is there any way to get the SS system and increase the loudness of it without making it sound like crap and at the same time not breaking the bank... I spent almost all my cash buying the car, can hardly pay for petrol as it is.
cheers guys,
Jared
I reckon just buy the system first and hook it up yourself should be pretty simply as its a vz. make sure when picking the exhaust get one without the squash marks. I think the vz's have them and some of the vys but but check em out and find one without them. your local exhaust shop should have heaps out the back. then save some money and get them to make a new tail piece either straight through muffler or hotdogs. should only cost round 150 maybe. But yer just chat to them and see what they think will sound alright.
Have fun mine's getting done 2mora so should be good to see how it turns out
Alright sweet. So i guess i'll wait to hear ur exhaust and see how it sounds... i'll probably get it regardless but it will be nice to hear one working. Also, major newbie question, but will the SS VY exhaust also fit on the VZ with no modification? like r they basically the same setup even know they r different engines?
WOW OMG massive thread. Well could i just ask what has everyone come to as a conclusion for the best V6 Exhaust setup?
I myself currently have VS V6 Ute with the single centre muffler dumped at the diff and am looking to spend a bit of money to make it sound a little better
Lately after reading around i have been thinking that a single muffler really isn't that loud so have been thinking about two hotdogs? What does everyone think and any suggestions would be awesome
Last of all anyone got any V6 that for some reason goes silent between 3500-5500rpm?
Thanks
Matt
Yer the exhausts are the same so go find yourself a vy one without the squash marks. The only difference in the exhaust is that it got higher flow cats which obviously made the exhaust flow better so holden decided to squash bits of its exhaust to offset the higher flow..dont want to much flow!! that'd be dangerous!!
So yer from my knowledge thats the only difference.
My utes getting its exhaust done as we speak so should be done by lunch. will definately be quiet as but will open it up when I save some money up![]()
Exhaust is onsounds quiet but bubbly. will change the rear ressi when I get some spare cash. mite take the rear section off and see how it sounds
but yer feels real open and smooth, very happy with it
will get a clip tonight hopefully
Sounds awsome, can't wait to see the clip
I've heard that the sedan exhaust will not fit the ute without modification but the wagon is pretty much the same... is this correct? if so, besides asking the previous owner, is there a way i can tell whether the exhaust i am buying is off a sedan or ute?
Also, because i was originally aiming for more of a good sound from the exhaust than performance, not minding a bit of drone, will the ss exhaust sound the part if the rear ressi is replaced by twin straight through pipes?(loud, bubbly with maybe a little backfire noise with a release of the accelerator)
EDIT: my post didnt make sense..
whats the diameter of the SS exhaust? could be fine or could be too big

JT Ute: To tell the difference between the sedan and the ute will be the tip the ute ones will both be the same length where as the sedan will have one tip longer than the other.
As for sound at the moment with all the mufflers when you step off the throttle it sorta bubbles back down so with the rear ressi changed I'd think you'd get this out of it. I think if you went just two straight through pipes you'd get a fair bit of drone so I would reccomend a straight through muffler. you'll still get the sound but no drone.
Ill have a clip up soon of all the mufflers on and also one without the rear section (won't have this till sunday night)
Ephect: the size of the exhaust is 2.25" plenty of flow for the v6 but not overkill![]()
I'm dying for the clip mate.

This whole thread is about trying to find the best setup and of course it will come down to personal preference. Typically for the ecotecs a single 2.5" catback with a glass-packed muffler in the centre through to either a resi or a hotdog seems to be the best sounding with lowest drone.
Two hotdogs would drone like crazy IMO. So like I said, single 2.5" w/1 muffler through to a resi or hotdog would be my suggestion. People are experimenting with the standard twin 2.25" SS system so it'll be interesting to see what they sound like.

Cheers for suming that up. Currently i'm running pacemakers > custom Y piece > standard cat > 2.5" catback with centre straight through muffler. Sounds good when i boot it but it drones a fair bit. I'll probably look at getting a resi or something in the rear which might lower the drone.
