Just wondering what would be involved in putting an Alloytec 190 engine into a VN...
It's due for a new engine pretty soon as we're nearing 500 000 kms on the original motor. Also thinking of putting in the 5-speed or 6-speed Auto gearbox with it. We're not after power or huge modification potential here, just a good new-ish engine for a car that's really just a cruiser. How difficult would it be, what other things would I need to consider, and any ideas on how much it would cost?
Any info or ideas appreciated!
Sam

probably 5-6 thousand id reckon, you would need the engine, trans, ecm, bcm, tcu, associated wiring, keys and the igntion barrel with metal strip (imobiliser)
or you could use a motec aftermarket computer, and by pass the lot of it. haha
really if the car is just a street driven car and not heavily modified, its not worth it, putting a vy ecotec with a vs intake/exhaust manifold is easily done with very little wiring modification

as suggested above, go the ecotec route with a manual box, much cheaper, easer conversion and lots of potential for improvement

haha fair enough, cheers for the suggestions guys but not keen on an ecotec at this stage and an LS1, well, I don't need another V8 so unless an LS conversion is significantly cheaper than an alloytec then it's out of the question for now.

An alloytec is an expensive option.
Easier and cheaper to shove a 6L in but if its not an 8 you're after then why not just buy a 4.2L stroker engine from COME?
if you write the ecotec/alloytec option off and you're only willing to accept a 6....go jap
better than the I6 idea anyway
do an ls2 conversion.. 260rwkw unopened engine now thats the way to go
I'd go euro before jap, don't ask how I'd have to think a good deal about that
LS2s are still too expensive, can get an alloytec + auto and all VZ electric gear for $3850. Doubt there's an LS1/LS2 to be had for that sort of price.

spend a little more treat yaself with either a LS1 or LS2, gives you more of a broad scope to improve on, go fast bits are easier to get ya hands on and even from pluggin in a laptop and uploading a tune u can make a significant difference! but if the missus is at ya about gettin an 8....... 190alloytec does have unlocked potentual.
might just be me but that sounds like an awesome deal for all that. would be a nightmare doing the conversion + electrics though
nothings hard, some things just need more time and effort
if you can get the complete electrics to get it running, go for it, remember the ecu, tcm, and bcm are all security linked and is required to start the engine and run it, unless you go down the aftermarket computer setups

if you want advise on this system best to talk to your local tuner!
the security system your refering to is known as "VATS" - vehicle anti-theft system
to make things talk, any reputable tuner with HP Tuners is more than capable of relinking this system to make it work in harmony, that applies to v6-v8
I'll have plenty of time to think over this, current 3800 still goes very well, and I have other things to take care of first. In short, no spendings on fun in the near future.![]()

l67 ftw lots more potential than the alloytec easy to get heaps of power
whilst i believe the alloytec is a great motor, for the cost of the conversion your better off going a rb26dett or the 3 ltr supra tt...that would be worth spending the money on if you want a six. or if your feeling brave a 20b rotary would be something different. if you have a matching tow truck,
hey there is always the 1UZ lexus v8 route..... could be interesting. if your keen on making your own engine mounts and a few exhaust mods, you'll also need to weld a bracket onto original crosmember to mate to the auto. plus all bits needed can be had for $2500.....
ish. wiring and maybe lil odds and ends so you'd add a safe margin on top
Couple of interesting ideas there, but as I said I've plenty of time to think.

get a rotor up ya!
no rotary will ever come anywhere near my car. Even RX7s run away because they can feel the hatred.

sam im selling a rebuilt vr engine and box with vr wiring loom and ecu if your intrested
there was a vl powered by a 1uz toyota v8 at the last drags i went to,
it sounded weird so i went and checked it out.... damn did i get a shock lol
was a tidy conversion and those motors rev like hell... are only a 4l though so mabey look into nissans v8, VH45 or VH41, they ar a big bigger and still dohc!!
