super 6 conversion
hi guys,
was wondering if it is possible to fit the L67 supercharger onto the n/a ecotec, if possible it would save me the hassle of mucking around with the box as mines manual, what what be better money spent on or just drop a 5 litre into it? cheers.

There is a kit from Yella Terra that includes everything needed including de compped heads. From memory it's $5-6000 parts only. You can buy a complete L67 ( stronger internals, all accessories for OEM) for $2000-$4000.
The L67 has the injectors direct ported, lower comp due to piston design, balancer for extra belt etc.

Tappethead ran over 200rwkw with the cooled conversion kit on a 300 000km ecotec (not L67) bottom end. Careful tuning and a good set up will get you there but for how much money. Better off fitting an L67 or turboing the ecotec imo dollar for dollar

the cheapest option is to either buy a complete L67 engine with loom, or buy a wreck with a L67 in it to take out the parts you need.
you need alot of bits and pieces swapped over if you where to try bolting the m90 to the top of a ecotec - so it ends up easier and probably cheaper do a complete engine swap.
then if you have a whole car thats wrecked you can swap over other gear from it too like the fuel pump and pcm.
even easier - you could buy a supercharger kit and bolt that to your current engine.

A supercharger kit will cost couble of an L67 convo. It would be a DIY job though for someone with a bit of experience.

Say I brought an L36 from the wreckers and wanted to build it into an L67 from the ground up to one day swap with my old L36 currently in the car. What would I need as far as everything goes and what can I use from the wrecker L36 in building it into a super 6.

Thanks for the fast response time nicko. So as I thought it would pretty much be the block and crank. I think ill give F.I.T. a call or drop by their place as I live in Perth and work out near the area their shop is in, so maybe a lunch time chat would be handy to see where I am at and what I/they will need.

About a year and a half ago I fitted an L67 topend to my n/a ecotec bottom end in a VS. Bought the whole topend (heads, manifold, blower, pulleys, etc…), and the PCM. Left the standard ecotec loom in place, fitted Yella Terra MLS head gaskets to lower compression, bolted it all together in a couple of days (I did have issues, but it was due to a harmonic balancer not wanting to come off!!!), and it ran fine for a couple thousand kms till I sold the car. I was running the standard VS s/c 6 PCM and tune, mind you though the engine had a reasonable sized come racing cam, so this may have eleviated any pinging probs due to the overlap.
It ran good, but only put out 142rwkw, however it gained about 30rwkw lower in the rev range. All up cost was about $2k for ALL parts, everything, nothing missed, all running. So it is reasonably cheap to do, and not difficult at all.
Btw, it was still running standard ecotec fuelpump, but s/c 6 injectors.
