Default Suprise on the dyno!

Hey all im Nicko! i have a vy v6 5speed! i hear people saying they got their 6 dyno'd and alot of people with ecotecs getting from 100 -110kw with multiple bolt ons! now i only have pacemaker headers, exhaust and panel filter and mine read 125kw! is this a misprint or am i just lucky???

Cheers

p.s ill get my scanner and post the dyno sheet at work!

Sounds about right, a VN V6 stock standard is around 100rwkw, so a vy with pacemakers and exhaust + panel filter (K&N), should be making that, although it could be a happy dyno, but echotecs respond more from breather mods than the old buick.

oh ok! i just wasnt expecting the claimed power increase from pacemakers and k&N to be accurate!

dont wanna burst ur bubble man but i reckon thats a happy dyno. ud might be able to get that with rockers or somthing but probably not with just an exhaust. or maybe u have a freak of an engine but i doubt it man

i live in the happy dyno state, my STOCK 5 speed vt pulled 123.9rwkw! Im not sure whats funnier, the fact i managed to pull 123 from a stock 6 or the fact that i only have 123kw

your dyno figure is higher to alot of other peoples figures simply due to your VY being a manual and has less drivetrain loss. most people have auto's and this affects how much power ends up at the wheels - i would say that the figure is about spot on.
123rwkw is about 164rwhp, stock post VX ecotecs (slightly more power than pre VX) will pull anywhere around the 150rwhp mark. so with extractors and zort, 164rwhp is about right.

well its not that black and white - but yeah, autos have more drivetrain loss, mainly due to the torque converter chewing up some of the power (well - torque actually...lol).
