Default Alloytec to VS conversion?

Can't seem to find much information about this. Has anyone on here done the conversion?
Just wanna know whats involved, what crossmembers? Do I need newer K-frame or just different mounts? Loom issues, making dash instruments work? Legalities?

Legal but alot of work and not worth the effort. Probably wouldn't cost much more for an ls1 conversion

Well with engine/loom/ECU/Gearbox packages on ebay going for around 2 grand it seems a hell of a lot cheaper than modifying another ecotec to 190kw. I'm not interested in an ls1... I prefer embarassing V8 owners

God idea due to the price of the Alloytec but unless you are planning FI the Ecotec in your car now is actually capable of alot more power for less money

Are they 190kw engines on ebay going for 2 grand though? All I can see on Ebay atm is the 175kw alloytec @ $1900 with loom and ecu...No gearbox. Or there is one with gearbox at $2950, but again its 175kw.

Have you ever driven an alloytec powered car before? They are not as nice to drive (performance wise) as the earlier V6 in my opinion, too hard to rev and they need alot revs to get going. Its like a large 4 cylinder

i agree with vn2nv, they're a dodgy V6 - they feel alot like the jap V6's when your driving them - you gotta ring the life out of the damn thing to get anywhere because there is no low down torque.
plus that fly-by-wire throttle body sucks balls, i could never drive with one of those everyday. i prefer the mechanical feel of a cable driven t/b.
i think if would be alot of work and money for nothing doing a alloytec transplant into a VS....thats even if it'll fit ok. seriously, that engine fills up the bays of VZ's and VE's pretty much completely, and the VS bay is ALOT smaller.
i think alot of gear would need to me relocated to get that engine between the rails of a VS.

modifying an ecotec to 190 can be done for cheap! i have a vy 5spd which runs 125rwkw which is around 180 something at fly and i only have exhaust and k&n! also i priced a new comp/rollerrockers/cam for 1700 and you will find if u did that u would beat alloytecs! my mate has a vz sv6 and its no faster than my vy!

Yeah I've seen those ones on ebay at the moment but there have been cheaper ones in the past. After having a good look at it I think the price would blow out quite a bit and be a major pain.. but it would be a nice conversion tho

I've heard that the alloytec really had to be revved to get going - I guess due to smaller capasity donk in a heavier car, but I hoped that the lighter VS body and some small mods to help the thing flow better and it would be very nice off the line. And i'd only do the conversion with a 6spd manual, which would also help

Why not do an L67 instead? It would (I'm pretty sure) sit on the mounts perfectly and there are a range of boxes that could be bolted up with minimal fuss.

That way you can munch 8's even more, with just a 6.

Alloytech's are a piece of crap to drive anyway. I hate driving so called "refined" DOHC V6 engines. On paper they may look good, but the ole pushrod engines are much better for driving.

I've heard Alloytechs are a bit for towing also, due to the need to rev it high. You could do a lot better than an Alloytech.

Yeah i've been exploring both options (L67 vs alloy) as both seem to be a similar price for the engine itself.
Some questions on that subject...

Currently running n/a ecotec with 5spd manual. Will the L67 run straight off my manual loom and PCM? Will it be a simple memcal swap or am I going to run into difficulties do to all L67's being factory auto (different loom)

Yes I realise that the box wont last long and everyone will say "get a T56".

Will the T56 also run off my existing loom?
