Default ecotec vs buick

are ecotec motors really that much better then the buick motors
in terms of:
Performance
Fuel Efficiency
Refinement (smoothness)
How much smaller/lighter are they?

any things else that might be of use....

Performance if both engines are stock the the ecotec has about 15-20kw over the old 3.8's

yes and no.

better flowing heads, 4 bolt mains. weaker rods and pistons (unless you have a l67 botom end). smoother.....maybe a little.

Stock the ecotecs are better. The buicks run lower compression which means they are more suited towards forced induction.

EG, Stock Buick engine + SC14 setup would cost around $1500-2000 but return around ~175rwkw. More if you upgrade the exhaust.

You wont get a Ecotec to put out that sort of power for that price.

From my experience, the buick engines tend to be a little stronger and simpler. As long as you change the oil occasionally they should last forever...
