Default Formula holden buick based v6's

I thought i'd make a post about the formula holden motors, like specs and components and their availability to give all the guys here like me a bit more insperation and some ideas to go off when hotting up there v6's. I'm on the search tonight and whenever i get some spare time but anyone else knows stuff off the top of theirs or whatever post it up. They are a beast of a motor with extensive inernal work. still use the original computer with a retune so it definately makes some of the mods viable for street use.

yes and no, they arent really designed to be used on the street cos they dont really idle that well under 2000 rpm lol...

but some info is hard to find like the specs and parts like pistons and head designs and stuff like that.... but i agree it would be good for people chasing big power to know the parts used

I know they used a Holden V6 engine with claimed 340 BHP @ 6750 RPM. with the old buick based V6. The neew ones called the formula 4000 are using the new alloytech v6 as their engine so im havin trouble diggin up much about the 3.8's. i knew street commodores had an article on the formula holden V6 in a V6 vengence special lil mag. if anyone could dig up a copy of that that'd be great.

the tunes in the idle and lower rev range is fairly average aparantly, so i spose only using a few of the mods they did and a bit more sedately tuned car it could put in a street car. possibly. heres hoping that path can be followed anyway.

There was/is a Formula Holden race car & engine at the Birdwood Museum, They may have some info on it or contact details of the owner.

I'll tell you what, in the delco the highest idle speed you can select is 1600 rpm, guess where it's set at in the Formula Holden?:P 1600 and they still dont hardly idle at that. They ran a huge came (you can buy it from wade). Ported heads, stock manifolds, stockish throttle bodys (maybe bored out and there's some with big ass twins out the top or something). Injectors from one of the early injected falcons and that's about it. Depending how how rich the team was they ran a stock bottom end or a stronger one :P but either way they broke alot/often at 7000rpm+. Really it was asking a bit much of the old V6 to spin that hard with that much power

one thing im a lil surious on are the heads. Can the stock ones even flow enough for what the formula holden older style motors were? there isnt a hell of lot of room for larger valves but if they used the standard inlet manifolds which i remember seeing a pic of and also trust greenfoams judgement then they musta had some massive work.

Yeah the heads were ported stockies it showed them in the book, hakkies got the book he showed me scans or something once, the ports woulda been ported almost all the way to the water, look at the size of the cam and the headers if you want to know where the power came from
