Default Thoughts on in-car dyno

A while ago I was looking at building my own chassis dyno from some plans people had done before and I got a heap of software for measuring the home diy dyno which worked on pulses from any soarce mounted to the dyno rollers could be hall effect sensor or micro switch or what ever.ive been thinking about not even making a dyno at all now but using the car as the dyno .was wondering what peoples thoughts are on just running off a pulse sensor on the car.I thought I might be able to run off either the CAS pulse wire or off a second hall effect sensor mounted on the timing cover still triggered by the original crank trigger wheel or off the speedo pulses which wouldnt be as good and displaying the torque and horsepower curve with the diy software I have.creating something to go off when tuning my efi if I could get decent torque curves I can see where exactly im down on power and address the issue.I allready have a g-tech but its the original version with no torque or horsepower curves like the later loggable ones so im looking for alternatives.if I remember rightly the software uses the soundcard mic input for inputting pulses unsure on how many pulses a second the software can handle either.any thoughts and ideas post em up.

Road dyno is a product that works well and land & sea used to have a tailshaft mounted power and torque measuring device. Also you can get dynolicious for the IPHONE for measuring hp and torque

I wouldnt even bother with that, We tested it against an E series senator and a VR calais 304. The 304 got a higher reading lol.

A gtech is a good option though

Tell me what weight you entered in for each of the vehicles, I would like to see why it wasn't correct. Looking forward to your reply, got some more questions after that
