soaking em doesn't really fill em. the lifters in my 308 were real hard to push down as well. i made a special lifter compressor so i could pop the retaining clip in/out. i had one lifter where the clip was missing the lifters should pump up once they get oil pressure. it really is a shame there is no simple way to prime the oil system like the chevy V8

VN S1 Production Saloon same way for the eights. are your pushrods still sloppy as with the pedastal bolted up? zero lash has about the same feel as a feeler blade slipping through properly gapped ignition points haha remember those anybody - if its real close you can carefully file a SMALL amount off the bottom of the pedastal but be carefull as what you take off is relative to rocker ratio, cam grinders often reccommend longer pushrods to compensate for how much has been ground off the base circle and it goes the other way when you shave the block/heads

hopefully we may have the wrong lifters and we be laughing the old ones were good were opening the valves they had about 1mm max clearance under the pedistals before tightening them down they arnt that old we had contemplated reusing them after these issues LOL

not often the lifters are wrong, they're the same for the old sixes and small block chev. "about 1mm max clearance under the pedestalsshould be about half a turn till bolt tight so aroundbout .020"-.030" preload from zero lash - with new lifters its a fine line feeling the pushrod just start to nip up to zero lash.

for priming without access to a pressure pot when you put the pump back together pack the gears with vaseline and once the pump is bolted up avoid turning the crank as much as possible till you have filled the sump and cranked it over without plugs till you get pressure then put the plugs in and fire it, grab a boiled sweetie from a kid and jam the thermostat open with it, instant coolant flow to burp it then it dissolves and the thermostat operates normally - beats a facefull of hot coolant when air pockets chuck it out.

DO NOT put antifreeze in till its run in!!! the silicates in some antifreeze love to slyly sneak out and some headgaskets leak if not allowed to set into the castings for about a thousand km's

nah these lifters are so short on the inside you can just hold the rocker supports level and they are sitting on the head allready even before bolting them down

no way mate assemmbly lube or fresh oil, its just so theres some suction in the pump to get pressure up initially, it dissolves in the oil pretty much straight away - it doesn't have the lubricity for bearings

That pressure thing is bluddy brilliant....and so simple too! Also love the boiled lolly idea too, V6's can be a shite to bleed.

Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing the results of this build.

Delco, I must hassle you next time you are down this way for a boost tune, as I have a 2 bar, and bigger squirters now. Cheers!

good to see they fitted some trumpets to the inside of that manifold

that bottle is a great idea. i had though of the oil pressure sender port but hadn't figured a way to get the oil in there. nice one.
