hey guys i've bought a engine off a wrecker claiming its a VN SV 5000 engine as far as i can figure out these were 308's not 304's correct me if im wrong
question is how can i tell that it is actually out of a SV 5000 i've noticed the engine no starts with SV
any help would be good thanks guys
they had a different manifold on them didnt they? with sv5000 printed on it? not sure otherwise.
Ok my info from my Holden info says not all the SV 5000 engines had twin throttle bodies but the single throttle body will have a number starting with VE and the engine equipped with twin throttle body injection with be VK.
The engine serial numbers are prefixed VU was the normal VN prefix, VK was the standard SV5000 and VK was the XV2 twinthrottle body prefix for the VNs
Other prefix used for later engines
VP,VQ,VR & VS used VU as a prefix
Service replacement engines for the VS series used a revised number changed from VH to SH
I dont know what the engine number prefix you mentioned is from
I checked my VN-VS records and it didnt come up in any of them
cheers
Scott
ok checked again engine NO starts as SVU so not sure what this means prob just standard 5.0L though
All of you are all over the joint
The SV5000 was an injected 304. All 359 of them used a single throttle body manifold.

Selling FG G6E Turbo and buying a N/A Supra
AirStrike is right. Also, I think you'll find that all injected engines from the VL onwards ( I even think the carby VL is included in this ) are 304 engines, not 308's.Originally Posted by AirStrike

so can any one tel me why there is a S in front of my engine no?
Bartso the s means the engine is out of a statesman
sv5000 motors are "black motors" pull the rocker cover should be roller rockers if
its a 200kw motor hope this helps
my bad "black motors" are VP GTS using Group A parts no roller rockers on SV 5000

The engines in the SV5000 are the same as the VN GRP A, VP GTS and VP Clubsport 5000i. They have roller rockers, 4 bolt mains ect and if you have a look at the brakes they use twin piston calipers. The letter prefixes mean what the car is based on (executive, berlina, calais, staesman).
AirStrike is right just confirmed with a new to me VN5L manual see attached image
Too right they are!Originally Posted by Lexx
