Default forced air or cam package?

    Hey guys.

    cam/exhaust or PD blower?

Im currently driving a stock VX clubby as a daily. the only mod being h/duty clutch.

I have another car in the shed (vs 5L ute) that ill be fixing up and selling very shortly which should leave me with just under $10k to go nuts with.

now for the last year or so ive been pretty set on a PD blower like a PWR or Harrop or even whipple(if i had more cash).

i dont like the way turbos and centrifical blowers work so im not willing to go down that path.

the only thing now is im also throwing in the idea of just a nice big exhaust and cam package and have a bit of cash left to make the clubby look prettier.

i dont know if i want a nice looking and sounding daily or if i want it to be a 11-12 second street monster

what have you guys experienced and what are your opinions.

    cheers

your daily should be comfortable, relativly fast for an acceptable fuel economy and cheap to repair.

your project should tear your face off and make you hard.

    does that answer your question?

    Depends on a few things:-

    1. How "Legal" you want to be?
    2. How much "Attention" from the boys in blue do you want?
    3. How much money are you willing to fork out after the initial outlay?

Both option have there good a bad things.

    cheers guys.

comfort isnt really that big of an issue for me. the ute in my shed used to be my daily and that was far from comfortable. in saying that i have gotten used to the clubsport but that again has a brass button clutch thats not exactly smooth anyhow.

The "legal" aspect is one thing im a bit iffy about. it will be my daily so i definitely dont want a canary up on my windshield.
I'm not 100% on the laws in WA but im pretty sure a PD blower on an ls1 is not legal.
But then again ive grown out of the whole hooning stage of my life so im not gonna be doing stupid things to attract attention.
and there are also alot of blown and turbo V8's in my area and a few in my group of friends so not sure how much the police would care as long as im not being an idiot.

Lastly the money output after the original outlay. obviously i havent done this before so im not sure what is going to be required. most blower packages claim to be "bolt on and go".
I would be buying the kit myself then taking it to a performance workshop for fitting as they will obviously do the tune and dyno for me. any other "surprises" to come out of my wallet that you guys have experienced or heard of after ive bought the kit and had it fitted and tuned with the right injectors and such?

anything can be made legal if you have the cash for engineering and what not. Fairly certain WA Performance (Memory is a bit hazy, possibly another performance joint?) have done a rego'd and legal twin turbo VE clubby, and Marks workshop has had a few licenced PD supercharged LS1's.

Cammed LS1's sound rediculously tough, go like the clappers and demand respect when you hear them. The draw back is they can be annoying to drive around the city/carparks and in stop start driving tend to chew a bit of juice. I prefer blown to cammed. Much more sedate to drive, Use less fuel in town provided you arent on boost alot, and much more sleeper like until on the loud pedal!

Can look at some kits on Marks Workshop : SUPERCHARGERS

If you want to do things properly (I know you only have a $10k budget), if you go with a blower you'll want a decent full exhaust and a blower cam to suit to get the most out of the blower. Yes a stock cam and stock exhaust will work, just not really well. I'd be wary of second hand blowers as you don't know how much grief they've been given and if they've ingested something at some time. To buy a new PD blower and get it fitted and tuned, I don't think you'll do that with $10k.

Not if it breaks an ADR, ie. if you put an older engine into a newer car. Also, you cannot put HID lights into a car that did not come with them from factory. Even if you tick all the boxes like self-levelling lamps, lens washers etc, it still can't be done because the ADR specifies that unless the car comes with it from factory, they cannot be installed and engineered.

alrite cheers guys, some good points and opinions.

a second hand blower was one thing that i was considering. im aware that this can be risky because, really, if you have a blower on ur car ur gonna give it a good thrashing otherwise it would be piontless. so anything that is second hand and from a car that i dont personally know could be a waste of time and money and do more damage than its worth.

yes, a cammed LS1 does sound very tough indeed. the guys who live across the road from me both have cammed VY clubbys and i gotta listen to them everyday, further fuelling my desire.
my ute that i mentioned above is a cammed 5L and last nite after changing the diff gears i took it around the block for the first time in a few months. yeah the sound and rumble of that cammed engine did make me smile but i punched the throttle and realised that it just isnt enough to excite me enough these days. So i want horsepower over style.

I want it blown. eventually cam and exhaust to match is the goal. i dont wanna put a cam in now and then when i finally get a blower, have to change the cam to suit the blower anyway.
so confusing. now the ute is fixed and back up for sale, this is about to become a decision ill have to make in the very near future.

    ill keep you guys posted
