Default HSV stroker engine, after some info?

    hey guys,

been looking at cars lately and came across an earlier model HSV with a 215I engine.

just after some info on these engines,

    are they a good engine?

    problems with them?

    hard to get parts?

    any general experience.

just to make it clear im after info on the FACTORY HSV stroker engine.

I've only ever played with one 215i specifically. Frankly its no different to any other 5ltr you may come across.

As for parts, unless you're doing a factory rebuild its all the same IMO.

it was all the same apart from the crank, rods? pistons? tune obviously different.

They are a pretty good engine, but they're a relatively low comp stroker, so they don't make huge power. Having said that, with a bit of a tune, they can make pretty good power for what they are and obviously make better torque than the 304.

Crank is obviously different to a 304, rods are the same, pistons are different. As far as i know they run different injectors and a different tune. Top end is the same as a 304, as in: heads, manifold, T/B etc.

No problems getting parts for them, as apart from the rotating assembly, the engine is pretty much the same as a 304 (accessories included).

I'd certainly buy a 215i Holden V8 over an LS1. I'd say go for it.

Because i just do soop. Don't need reasons....

Holden V8 over LS1 for me. *waits for someone to tell OP to just go buy an LS1*

The only V8 i'd have over a Holden V8 would be a SBC (or BB).

I was just wondering why you like them over the LS1. Didn't need to be any technical reason

Mabye it's a bit of an underdog thing....Add to that i'm sick of lifting a bonnet and seeing an LS1 in there. I've always liked Holden V8's and always will.

And unless they're relatively quiet, they sound pretty average.

Yeah fair enough, I agree with you for the most part.

Everyone does the same shit with LS1's too. All looks the same.

thanks heaps for the info Blown V6 hatch.

i do recall another thread saying theyre fairly low comp. good starting point for a positive displacement charger .

before the LS1 fanboys get here, ill just say that i considered an LS1 and a later model commo, but id be looking at a fairly basic model with highish Ks compared to the car im looking at now which is reasonable low Ks and full house luxury. plus ive wanted one since forever.

That's all the reason you need. You want one.
Everyone seems to think everyone wants a dyno queen. If you're happy to not need 1millionkw then who gives a toss.

yeah seems a bit that way...

seen heaps of VT/X SS out there maffless tune and OTR, going for approximately what im willing to spend, they just seem a bit bland.
