    Default Help choosing cam

Hi guys. I need some help choosing a cam for my engine. Now I will be using it for drag racing until I get off my p's then I'll drive the car on the street. Here is a run down of what my motor has-it's a vr 304,factory clearanced for stroker zero deck height, 10.5:1 comp,30 thou over, arp main studs, speed pro forgies, a9l's with arp bolts, balanced etc it also has a dual plane high rise manifold with a 1000cfm billet throttle body.

Can anyone help me out? Cheers

My donk is very similar, except using a Torque Power single plane hi rise manifold, a Holley 750dp, and it has 10:1 compression. I'm using a Crane F280 solid. My motor is built for street use, burnouts and wouldn't mind taking it down the strip also. Apparently the F280 has run 10's in Commodores.

280 solid is a good choice mate, will be an angry street car but you need head work! Do you have head work? Dont think u will be running tens with the 5l tho. U want at least 300kws at the rears for that!
Prob make 240rwkw in a 5l. Stroke it and its a diff story!

Nah I'm not expecting to make 10's with mine. Hoping for 11's. But yeah mine is still stock stroke 308 with stock VN heads. Hoping for anything above 250rwkw.

The heads have just been reconditioned so no modification. What sort of headwork should I get done to them? Just port them?

I know someone that's making 280rwkw from a stock stroke 308 with VN heads. Not exactly sure wat he's done to it, he doesn't talk much about it tho, don't think he wants to give much away lol.

Yup but should speak to an expert first as buying all the fast bits doesnt always mean it will be a good motor etc! Dont want miss matched parts.
Crane have a web site check it out as it will detail engine specs needed for 280 solid!!

you will need diff gears for for that cam. plus adjustable roller rockers. manual or auto? if auto a 3.5-4k rpm stally.

248 duration is not bad doubt you will want to drive it on the street much. unless you have shares in BP. this thing will make some good fun power @ 4000rpm
