Hi iv got an old blue 253 and the heads going on have been opened right up slightly shaved and a fair size cam and was wondering which head gaskets to go do I go for a composite gasket like acl race series layered steel gasket ect can you help me out

Just go ACL monotorque gaskets. They'll be all u need and u only need to torque them up once, plus they're pretty cheap.

I think I'd be lookin at watever else could be causing them to let go. I've used those gaskets on pretty much all my motors till now and I've only had one let go, which I'm pretty sure was coz we stuffed up the torque sequence when torquing it up.
Were the heads shaved b4 ya put the last lot of gaskets on? Wat about the condition of the deck? Are u using stock bolts? Wat are u torquing them up to? Are u doin them in the right order?
On my last 308 I built the needle on the temp gauge flew right up as far as it could move (belt flew off). After we chucked the belt back on, it started back up and no drama's at all. It regularly saw 6500rpm and even a few times over 7000rpm and the head gaskets were fine until the day I pulled it down (big end bearing). Also we're using them on another 308 which is in our dirt circuit race car which is ALWAYS gettin the guts thrashed out of it, and they're fine as well.
I know 253's have flat tops, but still stock they are 9:1 compression (or 8:1 for the low comp versions), and shaving the heads isn't gonna bring that up a great deal, so I HIGHLY doubt it's the gaskets letting u down.
Maybe give Durapro graphite gaskets a go. Apparently they aren't to bad either, and only bout 60 bux a pop. I'm using them on my twin turbo 253, only coz I know the guy I got the turbo's off of use to run the same gaskets and they were good till about 13psi. My other donk is a 308 with 10:1 compression and that's got's ACL race series head gaskets, dunno how they perform tho, it hasn't been started yet.

I think it's called high compression head and pistons the gaskets work until it's time to start giving it shit heads are fine block is fine the motor is fresh all rebuilt and machined it's not the motor it's the gaskets

Put a pair of Fel-Pro head gaskets on it. We had the same problem with a 355 blowing gaskets between the cylinders, put a set of Fel-Pros on it, never had a problem since.
MLS gaskets are great and are re usable. i am on my 4th install with themmind you they were 300 bucks for the pair.
How did you go with sealing the water and oil jackets no prob? I have heard that there can be but was thinking of using mls gasket thanks air666

as long as the heads and block are flat they seal up without any sealer. you still need to seal your bolts though.
