im thinking of getting shorter diff gears as i want better take off in the 5l but dont want to reving over 2500 at 100km as my driving is manly high way
was thinking 3.9?
im not sure on what the original dfinal drive (diff ratio) is
but lowering final drive affects take off dramatically in first gear and also alters your speedo,
i would recomend you ring a diff specialist (like diff-lapping brisbane, qld)
and talk to them about your issue
this ratio talk would require a differential proffesional to help you decide, and make correct decision....
in theory changing ratio would give the low rpm result but changes entire box ratio......
I think 3.9's are too short, I really want to go 3.45's, I had this ratio in a EF Ghia I used to have and just loved it

What are stock ratio in a Vt wagon 5 l.3,45 sound good don't want to rev out to much at 100km. unfortanly no diff specialist around here ill ask je where I get my dyno done
stock will be 3.08
You'll be right with those revs with 3.9's but you could go 3.73's
You'll regret going 3.45
try and find someone in your area with those types of diff gears and get them to take you for a spin
I have 3.45s and sit on 2000rpm at 100, I didnt get them put it so I'm not stressed but I'd go a bit more to be honest.
well 2,000 rpm at 100 sounds good for me cause 110 sit on that. i'll look into them tomorrow. need to get another dyno run so i'll ask the guy tomorrow if he can get ahold of 3.73s or 3.45's can you do them ay self or best to get some one ells to do it?
ive got 3.9's and im sitting on 2350rpm at 100km/hr
i would recommend 3.9's

Its easy enough to work out the cruising RPM of each ratio yourself
3.45's will increase your RPM at any given speed by 12%.
3.7's will by 21%
3.9s by 26%
Each ratio will increase rear wheel torque by the same factor, so yes it is a trade off
I've got 3.9s in wagon running a vt5.0, sits on 2200revs on 100, I avg 13lts 2 da 100 in an auto. Got a full remap with it Tho.
