    Default vt 195i cubsport mods?

okay guys i recently got a 195i clubsport as a toy..

im having trouble finding which mods are worth getting to start off. currently its stock, bar a cat back exhaust, stainless steal cats, and pacemaker tri-y headers...
i was thinking tune tune and air intake and throttle body.. although im told there is no real power to be gains as the 195i is already fairly tuned and has a biggr air flow...

any suggestions would help. if you could tell me what would be good to start with? (lower price things) then down the track ill just cam-charge it...

hopefully somebody has some info! thanks guys!

you are right theres not much to gain with a tune so dont worry about that just yet. i would suggest diff gears. do u have auto or manual?

You could get the heads ported and polished and a stage 2 cam put in the same time ? Also as mentioned above, diff gears !!

It would be good if Greenfoam/nicefrog could actually answer whether he is willing to re-tune my car, I have asked him on numerous occasions and I'm still waiting for a reply!

Yeah I tried hitting up green on eBay but no reply, what kind if money would u be looking at for diff gears, and what kind of money for cams etc? And would there be much power to gain?? Im leaning towards a vortech charger and custom tune really at the moment lol

vortech charger is the best bang for buck by far. diff gears are around 1000 and cams can be anywhere from 1000-3000 depending on where u go

yeah im actually checking out a 5.0litre turbo kit at the moment, and if that falls through ill most likely be going for a vortech t trim kit. if niether comes up ill just grab some diff gears and maybe a stroker kit... thanks heaps for the input guys i really appreciate it

ahh just got through talking to some mace engineering people. they said they can supply me, air intake, 70mm throttle & memcal to suit at a good price package deal. with decent power gains.

what do you guys think? worth doing this before charging it??

also 1 more thing, as i said earlier i know the clubby has a mild tune, but does that mean i can still memcal the ecu with the mace engineering one? or not to bother? just get the throttle and intake??

    cheers boys

The clubsport will have a HSV tune it it (coupled with a decent exhaust system)unless someone has already played with it, that is how they make more power then the standard SS commodore, the engine is identical to the SS models.

the VT models also have the roller cam and full sequential injection along with the heart shaped combustion chamber, all these little mods helped it get 179kw standard from the 165kw model before.

i would couple it with a larger throttle body as that will require a retune anyway. order both from mace and they may give you some kind of discount if your lucky.
im not sold on the mace intake although some swear by it. i reckon the hsv intake is good enough and money is better spent in other areas imo

yeah, there is still more to be had from the tune. a good enclosed POD filter will out perform a panel filter in my opinion although the gains on the VT + models will be less then the earlier models as they had smaller more restrictive airbox. i certainly noticed gains on my V6 which requires less air then a V8

beautiful yeah im going to get the three from them, and yes theyre giving me a deal!

1 more thing guys, i have someone selling vs GTS 215 fully ported manifold (claims 30-40HP gain) and vs 215 GTS Ported heads (claims 40-60HP)

are they both improvements on my current setup??? will they fit, and is 1200 good for the both of them? 400 manifold, 800 heads???

thanks heaps guys i really appreciate your help since im a novice in the v8 performance area ;P

and do those power gains sound about right????

i wouldnt touch the heads unless your going to cam it. as for the intake the vs gts used the same intake as every other v8 at the time so it all depends on whats been done to it exactly.

well it just says its a 215 fully proted manifold and will give me 30-40 hp extra power over my current 195i ones, which he will sell me for 400.

just not sure if my ones are better or if its worth the money/power lol... as for the heads why is it better to wait to cam while doing the heads?

the heads are very good in stock form. you generally dont need to to touch them untill you get to a pretty big sized cam. usually a cam big enough to need heads would require a new intake manifold and more compression

'Fully ported' manifold is very much open to interpretation....
you'd really need to see the manifold in order to figure out what sort of work has been done to it and if it's worth the $400.

likewise with the heads. $800 is cheap for a set of professionally ported heads, but if some bum with a dremel has done a backyard job on the heads with no real understanding of what he is doing, then they could be bin material

im also not a fan of buying ported heads when i dont know exactly whats been done. they may still be professionally done but u have no idea if they are suited to your application.
if your keen on the manifold maybe you should go have a look if possible and take some pics, ask him too what exactly has been done

hey guys today i fitted a 70mm bored throttle body, a hideaway pod filter CAI, and memcal to suit from mace engineering... my vt clubsport 195i feels like its lost power????? when i booted it before it'd kick out and scream and get 0-100 very fast, now it seems like a v6, shifting roughly & not having alot of grunt?? any ideas?????
