Hay guys ive just brought a new ssv ute which i have recently upgraded the exhaust. Ive had a full stainless steel 3" Xforce system installed. The system consists of 1" and 7/8 headers, Hi Flow Cats, and 3" cat back exhaust. The system LOOKS great!! only problem is the thing doesnt sound much different to standard!!!!.. I intend on putting an OTR and cam upgrades on in the next coming months. The technicain at the performance shop told me he would put a larger muffler in the middle (22") as with the cam it would be to loud and drone.. Is changing the middle muffler out to a smaller one (10" as he has suggested at no extra cost) goin to make much difference?. I told him i was after a nice loud, deep note. The xforce system was what he suggested but it hasnt delivered.. Can anyone help with suggestions, and also what are the performance shops duties towards getting me what i want without me having to fork out any more large amounts of $$$.. OR am i just stuck with what ive got???
KPM 3" zorst ftw! lol will cost you about $2500 or so for the catback, anyway most 3" xforces ive heard have still been fairly loud, maybe due to the muffler change it has made it too quite, maybe get the middle one changed to the standard one xforces come with and see how that goes
Heres what your 3" should sound like with the standard xforce system

The first few seconds of the vid are for the 2.5 and the 3" starts at 0:17
Hope this helps![]()
Yeah mate mine sound nothing like that hay.. although a 22" muffler is a huge muffler hay???.. hes suggested to go back to a 10" but said when i put the cam in it will drone.. do u know anything about magnaflow mufflers?? ive heard that there the way to go and have had a few mate tell me to change to them, although it cost me $3600 for this system so i dont really wanna go spending to much more cash on it..
Yeah id deff say its cus of that muffer basically, you have to chose the louder u want it when crusing idleing ect it will start to droan, ive heard lots of good things about the magaflow mufflers, you mite be able to get a smaller muffler that will make it loud enough with minimal droan when u have a cam
With the KPM system, it his 2 big resinators in the middle and then 2 big muffers at the rear and its fairly loud but very deep with the cam and doesnt droan, i remember reading somewhere that the rear mufflers are the important ones for stopping droan, so maybe get the middle swapped out for resinators then get 2 bigger muffers on the rear, eitherway up to you and how much droan ya cant put up with lol
cheers mate.. ive also been told that i should prehaps go to hotdogs??? but ive always had the idea that hotdog just crackle and sound tinny.. is this rite??
im not really sure, the KPM on another look as 2 big hot dogs in the middle sorry not resinators, i would try to have 1 muffler each side of the twin and then a hot dog on each side too,
So u can either have it 2 middle mufflers -> 2 rear hot dogs, or 2 hot dogs -> 2 rear mufflers with that setup u shud get good note and minimal droan
Depending on the size of the hot dogs and mufflers will depend how loud it will be and how much it droans
sweet mate cheers for ur help
just another quick question bro, what suspention u running in urs??
$3600 for your exhaust system???? Did you install the Varex system, for that money you could have and choose how loud or quiet you want your car.Ive also heard 3" systems doesnt give you any more power than a 2.5" system and may even give a less increase in power gain.
