    Default vs 5L siezed, confused

Alright so here goes, im so fkn pissed off right now, ive had the worst luck, anyways i wont bore you with my life story. I was driving along in 4th (manualised b&m shifter) and my car all off a sudden started to free rev(as if it was in neutral) and i tried all other gears but nothing. So i pulled over and turned it off, put it in park, started it again, and nothing, just free reving. Turned it off and went to start it again but it just goes clunk. And i put a socket on the engine tried to turn it and you cant even manualy crank it. WTF would it be, would it be siezed? if it was seized how did it start and rev? no lights came on the dash, no noises. So im stumped, what could it be? Pulled the inspection cover off the gearbox and everything looks good.??

well either a seized engine or trans have fun removing the bolts from the flex plate without a turning engine is a bugger next option is to remove engine with torque convertor attached or remove both engine and box as one then separate later, makes a hell of a mess and if the motor is seized and gas axe will remove the plate nicely

You wouldnt have seized your engine, so that's a relief, id say something in the tranny has let go.

Get under the car tomorrow and drop the Trans fluid and look for metal shaving ect. If you see shards then pull the tranny out and then give it a kick in the guts, you'll find it WILL turn over.

A box from ebay or the wreckers should be under $200, but like mentioned above the flex plate could of sheared off and their only about $50

    Good luck

It sounds like transmission man. Or torque converter.

Torque convetor bolts come out? that would make a horrible noise youd think though.

i was just about to ask: did it make a blood-curdling noise when it let go? I can easily see how a manualised auto could lead to a dismantled flex plate

I'm also going to hazard a guess that if your flex plate has been damaged, your starter motor is going to have a hard time engaging it to turn the engine over.

Oh, and you being unable to turn the engine over by hand is probably just a little thing called compression. Take out all your spark plugs, get a longer breaker bar (750mm or longer) and try again. It'll turn over

THIS made my morning, i was so pissed thinking it was siezed, and it was starting to sink in that id be forking out 1k + for a new engine, as for the noise it made, it was wierd, you could tell something went, kind of like a clutch was slipping and spinning but obviously this is auto. Either way looks like the box will have to come out

Yeah i know i wouldnt be able to start it like that but should get it to turn over if that makes sense? When i turned the key i had someone watching and they said it was jamming and bouncing back, ( i forget what they said was bouncing back though lol)

If you cant turn the engine due to being seized then you will have to cut the flex plate off away from the convertor then unbolt the plate from the crank.
Last time i did this job was after a owner of vp clubsport decide to top up his own oil late one night , later that night his engine seized next day he checked his oil in the shed and found he had put 1/2 litre of round up weed killer in his sump , not good for a car with less than 300 kms on the clock

you tried putting it in neutral to turn it? i know i know its auto, but if its locked then it defys all reason anyway, also jack the rear tyres up off the ground?

such a weird problem. can you push the car? have you tried turning the balancer anti clockwise?

I would pull the starter off and see what you can see, if its got an inspection plate pull that off and have a look up the gap, have you tried winding it anti-clockwise yet?
