    Default Launching VE SS UTE

Hay guys ive got a worked ssv ute,
Mods include : Cam, OTR, Rip Shift, Underdrive pulleys, 3inch Exhaurst ect ect. All up it puts out just over 460 at the rears. So ive finally given into my mates demands to stop being a f##king pussy and take it down the strip to see if i can really drive the thing (besides going around in circles with clouds of smoke ). Just looking for some advice into how to launch the thing off the tree. Should i have the traction control on ??? Everytime i try and launch it off the lights without traction control on all i seem to do is fry the rears. Is it all about finding the rite amount of clutch slip??? Just trying to find some pointers so i dont look like a complete tool at the strip and try and do the ute some justice with a decent pass.. Cheers

First up get some proper drag tyres, with the highest profile you can fit over you rear brakes (15" rim is ideal). Mickey Thompson et street radials are a great tyre you can drive to and from the strip on ( technically not legal being DOT rated in the USA but no cop or transport goon will know the difference). Any car with a decent amount of power like you have is going to light up street tyres at even the stickiest of tracks.

Secondly, do a decent burnout, second gear is enough but smoke em until you can see nothing but smoke in your mirrors.

Thirdly leave traction control OFF, it will make you slower.

And lastly, if you want to beat the guy beside you then leave on the last orange light don't wait for the green. But if just chasing a low number then don't even worry about when you leave as reaction time doesn't affect your et unless bracket racing on a pro tree, just leave when you are ready (that doesn't mean take forever).

And yes, practice makes perfect you will have to ride the clutch a bit, moreso if traction is poor.
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.

The best thing to do is practice mate..

Its your first time, no one is expecting you to run 8's, or have a near 0 reaction time.. Just take your time, if it takes you 10 times, or 100 times to get it right, thats how long it takes..

One thing I can say clutch wise, is dont just drop it at the start.. Feed it out quickly, but not quick enough that it just frys the tyres
