Default 90mm throttle body on 5.0L?

Hi, i have a 304 motor in my VS and was just about to purchase a 70mm throttle body for it but have noticed a bit of a trend with people fitting a 90mm throttle body.

Can anyone tell me if there is a positive side to doing this and if so what is the 90mm throttle body from?

Also are there any other options as far as a new throttle body goes other than the standard one bored out to 69-70mm.

I see alot of billet "universal" 70-90mm throttle bodies etc but really have no idea.

The standard throttle body was more than adequate to cope with my Calais when it was stroked to 355. IMO you won't see any improvements on a standard 304 and it may even adversely impact your low-down torque.

The restriction is in the manifold itself. A 90mm throttle body is pointless on a standard manifold.

I figured as much but couldnt see why people were still doing it on standard 304's

Ill stick with the 70mm one from mace engineering.

little bit of a dig but is the mace 70mm throttle body worth it on a 355 stroker running the standard manifold or is the standard 65mm throttle body sufficient? thinking about the 70mm for my VS Senator

The 70mm is better but you also need to port the runners on the standard manifold and match the intake neck to the new 70mm T-body. The 90mm is only good for 350ci and above or heavily worked 5L engines and even then you need the Starr manifold to match upto the difference. Im getting the 70mm at the moment with a ported standard manifold and a tune. My mate has that combo and it works well. A bit of handy work inbolved but its worth it and you can save yourself a lot of coin.

If you have a 355 with standard heads and manifold then a 70mm T-body would be the ticket so long as you modified the stock manifold or got the Starr manifold. The 90mm is only good if you have performance aspiration ported heads and cam on your 355.

think your a little confused there Aussiepride

A Starr manifold is a standard manifold with a larger throttle body (90mm) and a larger intake neck attached, no work is done to the runners whatsoever.

Apparently hey do. I was just discussing it with someone who just bought one. They are on exchange basis of your stock manifold. They cut the manifold into sections, port the runners out and raise the height as well as the modifications you just mentioned. His is significantly higher too. Unless of course his was a special order from Starr Performance Victoria.
