Default Sumfin ain't right with the ol' girl

One of me wagons which we put an injected 5L and T5 into has been running shit on idle since we bought the donor car....but now it's developed another gremlin which I'm sure is something electrical. I'll start replacing all the electrical bits soon, coz I'm sure it's just a sensor or sumfin, but thought I'd ask on here incase someone with more experience with them knows wat it is if it sounds familiar.

Apart from the dodgy idle it has, as soon as the revs get up it runs sweet and goes hard, but when ya rev the crap outta it it's like it hits the limiter (I don't even think it has a limiter coz we use to flog the crap outta it and we never found a limiter...the donor car was a bt1 if that makes and difference), ya give it some more stick again and it does the same thing but revs are lower. It can get so bad that it won't even rev over 2000-3000rpm sometimes....like as soon as ya get to a certain rev it doesn't rev any harder, just starts misfiring and pops a bit thru the exhaust.

If ya turn the ignition off, then back on again, the problem goes away until ya start thrashing it again and it gets worse and worse again until ya restart it.

    Any ideas?

Hopefully picking up another donor car next week so will start raping that for bits to swap over and hopefully sumfin fixes it.

could possibly the be ignition breaking down. I'd be looking at the ignition module (although these normally just die and that's it) I'd also look at the coil, check the dizzy cap/rotor and make sure the leads are in good nic. What are the plugs like? condition/gaps....

When we had the motor out about 2 months ago (when we done the EFI conversion) I put new plugs in it, as well as leads, cap, rotor button and coil....so I'd hope it's not any of that.....but will replace it all when the motor comes back out in a few weeks.

The ignition module I had to lend to me bro coz his died, so I cracked a stuffed one open, repaired a few dry solders and threw it in and she worked. But pretty sure it started doing it with my other ignition module. Might change them over and go for a spin Will let ya know.

Sounds like timing problems to me. Somewhere something is wrong with your ignition. How helpful is that!
One thing with the 304's is they can eat coils (at least mine liked to) I installed an MSD Blaster SS for about 20 bucks more than a stocky and haven't had a drama since,(About 70,000 K's later). Also moved it onto drivers side fuel rail cover thing have a look on my profile for coil relocation if it helps.
Apart from the coil you are looking at rotor button, cap, leads, sensor in dizzy or mystery module on LH inner guard. (I know what it is I just like calling any sealed box of sparks that)
Or if you left the ALDL wires connected in timing setting mode then you'd stop the advance occurring I believe.

I had a similar problem with mine. It wouldn't idle very well and would back fire and pop through the exhaust and sometimes the intake too. I had changed the injectors and now it seems fine. It was also fouling plugs very quickly too. I am yet to change the plugs but will put some new ones in it before I drive it again.

Thx for the replies guys. I haven't fixed the problem yet, but pretty certain it's the CAS in the dizzy. Done about 800km's in it over the weekend and it went pretty good most of the time. Friday was hot and driving along the highway the motor cut out and wouldn't restart. Would fire occasionally but wouldn't start. Few minutes later it fired a few more pots enuf to run, but was rough as guts and as soon as ya touch the throttle it died. Few minutes later tried again and it ran better, overall after about 15 minutes it come good again and we were on our way.

But yesterday it started cutting out again when the revs got up. Got so bad that it wouldn't rev much passed idle lol. It got us home tho, and yeah prolly bout time to change the dizzy. Started pulling down the new motor for it, got a spare one here which I'm gonna chuck some rings and bearings in....and a different dizzy!
