Not much - just some minor clearancing. VR onwards blocks are already clearanced to take a 355 crank. Beyond that it's standard prep work as per any engine.

Im not too sure if the VR blocks actually clear, Reaps... I do know the VS blocks are ready for fitting but either way its an easy job to cut it for the main-cap bolts even for a 1st timer...

Yeah VR from when HSV started doing the 5.7 litre strokers onwards were all cast that way. That goes for all the V8 Holden blocks regardless of capacity.

Check out Pavtek. Never had one myself but have spoken to a few who have given them good reports.

i just got mine built and it cost me $4200 thats supply ing my own block and $500 of that was for reconditioning the heads

    what i got done:
    SCAT 355 stroker kit
    rotating assembly balenced
clearinced the block (because it was a vn block)
    bored .030" over size
    honed for molly rings
    short motor assembled
recon the heads with better design seals
machined the block for neopreen seal instead of a roap seal
    If in doubt......FLOOR IT!!!

yeah i got the block blueprinted

yeah thats just for the bottom end and assembly

stock cam and running gear at the moment just to get it all in the car and running

pretty sure its now at 10:1 comp

and they said neo seal is the way to go (rope seal is such old technology i think)

ill get the recipt tomorrow and give ya a list of every little thing they did and what each thing cost
    If in doubt......FLOOR IT!!!

Not really. Do you like COME or SCAT? Both are proven performers. There are a few others worth considering and a few others best put in the bin. IMO spending a few hundred extra on rotating assemblies is worth the peace of mind. If it were my motor I'd buy a balanced crank, rods, pistons etc from COME.

ive been leaning towards the scat setups, also been lookin at the COME gear too!
what would be the difference between a balanced come crank as compared to a scat crank that id get balanced upon assembely/build process?

your better off buying the kit unbalenced and then getting your whole rotating assembly balenced including fly wheel, harmonic balencer and main pully

Thats a very honest price there hey...! You wont find many people who will do all that for that price.
Ive been quoted $8000 for a complete engine Blueprinted 355, SCAT rotating assembly-Hbeam+forgies+hastings rings, Alloy VN heads-5axis machined-moly retainers-2.02 valves, Hydraulic-roller cam, Roller Rockers, Manley push rods, 70mm Thottle body, ported 5L manifold flowing 320cfm each runner. Tune extra. 500+ HP guaranteed. After that WILL have to upgrade the tranny and install a full spool. XD

I was quoted $6000 for the same minus the roller cam, roller rockers and only stock manifold, alloy VN heads-not ported, or upgraded throttle body. Still, that'd push out at least 430HP. And this is all from a well priced realistic builder, everywhere else wanted $12000+ for a full engine. So the $4200 is pretty good.

8G is a fair price too for a complete build id imagine from bottom to top. id be happy with that price if it was ready to drop in!

i was very surprised at the price of machining. im a machinist by trade and i wouldnt do it for that price haha

8,000 for a drop in motor sounds about right though especialy with VN alloy heads and roller lifters

I know everyone hates Procomp, but I went in in person and got a kit priced up.

    SCAT stroker kit blueprinted $1800
Alloy VN heads mild port $1300
Compcams HydrRoller Cam kit 268XFI HR 13 $1000
    Matchported 5L manifold
90mm LS1 throttle body with adapter plate $300
    044 bosch fuel pump $250
    Block machining + assembly $1000

So thats about $6500 + tune which is awesome. And well, they build and warrant the engine so if anything did go wrong they'd foot the bill. people who hate on Procomp are usually the ones who didnt blueprint the gear to start with or build the engine themselves without proper race experience. For me, Im after a streeter, not a comp car so it suits me fine.
    I think I'll give it a go...!!
