hey i was strongly concidering dropping an LS1 in my VS clubby
i was just wondering if it would fit n would i need an engineering certificate??
any help would be great.
Sorry mate can't really answer your question, but just wanted to ask you about the LS1. don't know if you've already got one, but where can you buy them? and what sort of money do they go for? And does anyone know if you can get front-cuts that include the 6-speed? I was just curious about a conversion in a VX....
i think u can pick em up in paper for round 5 grandOriginally Posted by mitch01
If u drop an Ls1 from a late model car u would have around 210 rw kw, good for prob low 12s on street tyres dude!
Brand new from Holden for 5 grand mate..Originally Posted by mitch01
Why would you have any more power than the engine did in the car it came out of? Stock LS1 is 220kw @ flywheel, so you'd have that..If u drop an Ls1 from a late model car u would have around 210 rw kw, good for prob low 12s on street tyres dude!
Cheers
Sorry digitok, stock ls1s had 220 flywheel kw in VT2(2000/01), now theyre upto vz which has 210rwkw on dyno - 250 @ flywheel!
Plus the car VS3 or previous are heaps (300kg) lighter than new models so yea would hammer!
may i ask why are you choosing a LS1??
for that all its work you would be better to stroke ur current 304 out to 355ci.
this would produce as much HP as a LS1. If u are planning on spending 5 Grand u could build a 250+ rwkw stroker. plus it will more then likey last longer then an LS1! and sound tougher.
just some food for thought.

im sellin a ls6 block

We will miss you Brockie
do u mean an LS2 block 6.0L ??? (gen 4)???
matt.
The 6.0L was an increase in bore so its same block as LS1 anyway!!
why i want an LS1? because theyr detuned so much that when u tune em up again in what ever car they came out of theyr running 12's without touching engine. Also it doesnt need much to get em running earl quick so imagine in a VS which is so much lighter
Plus you can have a fuel efficient car as well! I now a guy his VY is running 11's and still get 14L/100km in the city and VP runs low 14's and I use almost 16L/100km.
I've got a VY HSV 285 lined up to go in, but are unsure of cost to put in yet? I have a ball park figure only at the moment of $5,000
$5000 including engine???
Yep, thats what i would do!Originally Posted by geardys

The LS1 is a great idea - but there is nothing wrong with the 5.0 litre!
Nah, was told no more than $5000 to fit and get running. The engine is costing $6000 with auto, computer and harnesses (out of a senator), couldn't get a manual.Originally Posted by KiLLeR HSV

Fuel economy, you can have a 400rwhp LS1 and still only use 14L/100km in the city and LS1's sound mean with a decent exhaust.Originally Posted by MYSS94
Also do a mafless tune and edit and that 250kw will turn into 250rwkw, that sort of power in a VN-VS will be very close to 11 second passes and you have something that not many people have
do u think i 355 stroker is better though??Originally Posted by HSV1992
or bolt a yella terra charger on the 5.0L
ive got about the 6 grand mark
maybe bit more
ls1 confusing i have three. alloy one's i would call gen3/aurora. ls1 450dollars usa imports gen3 4800dollars ...if it was me 5.0 stroke 355/383 c.o.m.e. /master stroke around 3800dollars

still 7 and a half grand tho....
An Ls1 will never sound as good as a 355 stroker.Originally Posted by HSV1992
you could also spice up ur 304 with fresh internals and a supercharger for around 5-7 grand and it will turn out some impressive numbers and will still use around 14ltr per 100km's in the city. and maybe sub 10's on the Highway
but if u really like the Ls1 then i guess its up to you.
My choice would be a S/C 355 stroker then u have potential down the line to produce 560hp @ the wheels! allthough the fuel figures migh creap into the 20's. but thats the price u pay for Hp! and i'd like to see the 400rwhp ls1 that uses 14ltr's per 100km's around town. a 300kw or 297 Ls2 will have problems with those figures.!!

i dragged a vt ii ss couple days ago and naturally got beaten once i changed from 1st to 2nd but whatever he had on it sounded unbelievable for a gen 3. the only place ive ever heard a sound like that is at bathurst. not to mention he must have left a good couple of meters of licorice behind when he changed.
dont butcher the clubby!![]()
Dont stroke a 304, its pointless, LS1 is a much stronger engine if you are planning on modding it, the holden motors can only handle so much before you have to get engineers involved.
How many motors do you know that unopened NA can easily run into the 12's?![]()
The LS1 has more potential than the 355 stroker and is a s**t load lighter to boot!!
I've also had thoughts of an LS1 into my VN but the almighty $ always becomes an issue and ends up getting spent elsewhere.
Anyone have any answers to the following...........
If you replace a 5L with an LS1 would you use a late model (VT or later) computer and ditch the Delco 808? If so, could you run the VN L3 dash (or a VS Clubby dash) off the new computer or run a late model cluster????
Does anyone know if the VN auto bolts up to the LS1? This'd make life alot easier.
I really love my Commodores but I'd really love a Dodge!!
