it dosnt matter which direction the rotor button points to, as long as it points to the NO 1 cyl spark plug lead at TDC comp stroke

    firing order is 1-2-7-8-4-5-6-3

and as said above point it to no 1 on cap, in a clockwise direction place the leads 1 2 7 8 4 5 6 3 etc..

    1 3 5 7 drivers side, 2 4 6 8 passenger side.

    Default 308 firing order

It all depends which direction the rotor is facing, I have specs and it says the rotor points towards the passangers side but mine is facing the drivers side, It also depends on how the distributer was put in and where top dead center is. I think my distibuter was turned 180 degrees because the spark plug leads dont quite reach unless it was turned 180. hope this helps.

it doesn't matter where you start(with the position of the rotor) as long as you start with No1 cyl TDC on the compression stroke and then what ever point the rotor is on the cap goes to No1 cylinder. most people seem to start with the rotor at 1 oclock. i don't so the wires are arranged a little neater
