Sorry, how about a budget of 12k$ and no labor cost other then the machining. Or how about i put it this way how much would it take to get 600hp out of a 5L 308???

600hp at the fly. 12k might get you close, your going to strugle if you are wanting to stay N/A

something like a worked 355 stroker with a decent cam, heads, manifold, with a blower strapped to the side, and a SA dyno, might get you up around the 450hp mark

Yes i want it to stay NA. its going to be a race engine, it will not be on the street.

Id atleast throw away the cast block and grab an alloy one to start. I really dont think 600hp is practically achievable for a N/A 5ltr. You are gonna have to do rediculously stuff and machine things to within a thou of their life and your probably gonna wreck it in 5 minutes racing it.

why not look at a crate motor, probably be the cheaper option

OK then what do you guys think is a reasonable amount of hp which can be made from the Holden 5L at a reasonable price? Im pretty sure one of my mates stroker 355 has about 558hp at the engine, surly another42hp couldnt be that hard to find?????

You need cubes. And spare engine blocks.

A good friend of mine has a 383 stroker in a HZ 4 door, this engine make close enough to 600 moroso hp. GOOD heads and intake, big cam, plenty of fuel and revs.
