    Default Red vb project

I picked up this VB off ebay a couple of months ago for $425.

So far I have rebuilt the front end with nothalane bushes, superlow springs, munroe shocks all round, HDT 30mm front sway bar and VN V8 front brakes with 1" master cylinder. I have fixed up some bits and pieces. Just about ready for RWC.

I am going to convert to V6 5 speed manual.

I have acquired a VR for the enginine and fuel tank + bits. I have also a T5 VR gearbox, flywheel, starter motor, manual loom and ECM, VN V8 LSD, VN Rack, Exceedy clutch. Just about ready for the conversion.

I will register before the conversion.

    Cheers Pete

nice VB mate, its an SL right? i've got a red vb as well in the shed, an SL with SL/E wheels (same as yours), but with a 253 and aussie 4 speed

picked mine up for a bargain too (only coz it was through family)

how many k's are on it?

also, if you find anywhere that has vb commodore grills, let me know coz the one on mine was stuffed and had to put a vc grille on it.

have fun with the conversion mate

Mate I don't even think it is an SL model. It is a pov model with vinyl seats. No SL badges. It has 3.3 badge instead. The SL had silver painted section between the tail lights. Mine does not have that.

It looks a lot better in the photo.

It has 130,000ks I think are correct. The car was not driven for the last 6 years.

I put a new VC grille in mine.

Check out ebay for a new grille.

I have talked the conversion thru with the engineer so I am going to get started soon.

when i got mine it had the vinyl seats, same colour as yours and the silver section between the tail lights, even the wickedly awesome gold strip on the side haha.

geez thats not many k's, mine has about 270k on it i think. ill have to check.

good luck with the conversion mate

This it what it looks like now.

Changed the wheels and droped by 50mm all round.

    Fitted a VC grille.

I am pulling out the engine and gearbox next weekend.

    Finally some progress.

    It has been slow progress.

Trouble is I just don't get enough time on weekends to get on with it.

I found some rust in the left side sill. Was a concern so put it up on ramps and had a real good look underneath. That was all I could find so I will plate it up and bog it over. It could have been a lot worse.

Had a couple of good days working on the VB.

Engine gearbox diff and fuel tank is out.

New k frame and rack is in.

New diff is in. Not much clearance cause it is 60mm wider then the original. These are the wheels I will be running with.

    Cheers

looks good, good progress, You can have the inside of the wheel machined to increase the offset and sit them in more if you like them that much and want to keep them, cheapera nd easier than shortening the diff, keep the pics coming.

Last weekend I fabricated the gear box x member and tack welded it up. fitted a disc brake hand brake cable, changed the tie rod ends, fitted up the sway bar connectors front and rear.

I has the first engineers inspection next Saturday am.

Next is to organise to have the tailshaft modified.

    Slowly getting there.

Have you got a picture from the outside of the track at the back of the car with the VN/R diff? I want to see how much room there is

Mate I will organise some photos next weekend for you. I will be putting the oringinal SLE wheels back on instead of the aftermarket alloys. That will give you a better indication.

    Mate

These are the photos of the rear wheel clearance. Standard SLE alloys with 215/60R15. It does not look ridiculos in fact it realy fills the guards out but only +4mm clearance on the left and -2mm on the right. When a wheel is jacked the the axle pivots inwards and the tyres reduce in width at the tread. I think it will be ok but I will think about rolloing the guards. The photo was taken with no fuel tank so it will sit a bit lower. I has king spring super lows. It has an adjustable panhard which will need some minor adjustment.

The car had its first engineers inspection today and all was good. He did not raise as an issue even though I said it was a VN V8 diff. He was happy with every thing done todate.

Thanks thats not as bad as I expected. I'd like to have the front end the same track tho, I think you can use VR stuff to do that but I haven't totally figured out what's wider on the VR yet. But I'll go with a VN diff at least in the short term since it's a bolt in job
