    Default VK SS Replica

Just another project we're starting. Gonna be my bro's daily driver, and sumfin to take on club runs.

Nothing to extreme planned for it. Just fix the bodykit, quick respray (external and engine bay), chuck my 253 in it, lower it and chuck some cop rims on. Hopefully be on the road in a few months.

Nah we got heaps of cop rims. My bro works at Holdens and they gave a big pile of them to him (ones that have been replaced with mags). Might need to find another set of 15x7's tho.

I still got a set of 18's so might see how they look on it.

Haven't got much to update on the car.....started rubbing back the engine bay and welding up some holes, that's about it lol.

Yeah I know it seems like a waste....but it's just gonna be a daily/cruiser....don't want it to make any power. We'd put a 202 in it but it's gotta sound like a V8 atleast lol. Who knows, maybe oneday we'll get bored and build a 308 up for it, or just chuck an injected 5.0L in it....but for now we just want it sounding nice and looking tuff.

Plus....we already got plenty of toys we can have fun in!

I don't think you could legally fit a 253 into a VK. It comes from and older model.

I use to think the same thing.....but currently in the process of getting my wagz changed over from a 6cyl to an 8, and the guys at regency said if I put a 253 in it they'd approve it straight away without any brake or suspension upgrades.

This small project is now canned...well for now anyways. Might strip wat we can use off of it, then scrap the rest. Picked up a VH 2day that needs a lot less work....still needs a motor and box and a few minor things done, but should have it ready to rego in a few days....and it's already V8 rego'd!

Here's some pics I took...some of the descriptions are out a few days coz I wrote them previously, but you'll get the idea.

The motor for the VH.....was suppose to chuck it 2gether 2nite but coudn't find the new lifters we got for it a while ago, and also was short a few head bolts lol.....so will continue 2morrow.

It's nothing real special, just a red 253, bored out 30thou, flat tops, JP double row chain, new rings and bearings only like 2000k's ago, oh and a dynotec stage 4 cam. Just got stock heads for it with LT1 springs. Intake is a stocko 4 barrel and got a quady to go on top.

Just chuckin some gasket goo on the waterpump.

Timing cover on....yeah it's a bit crusty, but it's the best one we got lol.

    Chuckin the waterpump on.

Brad torquing up the timing cover and water pump bolts. Ya prolly can get away with using a ratchet, but we've had a better 'no leak' success rate when torquing everything up properly lol.

    And again.

Tapping in the oil seal. In a perfect world we would of had a socket the same size as the seal and we'd use that to help get it in properly....but yeah, just tapping it with the hammer worked eventually lol.

She's all in. Just need a balancer and we'll be set!

Head gasket on. We use ACL mono-torque gaskets, sprayed with a coat of hylomar.

    DirtCircuitSA.com

Yeah only got one head on....the bolts we got to finish the set turned out to be a different length....so need to hunt down some more head bolts 2morrow.

Was still havin trouble finding enough head bolts.....so thought we may as well chuck the ARP ones in. Just had to shorten them coz for some reason they were to long?? ....yeah the 9" was prolly a bit o****ill, but it done the job lol.

Lobes playin with the air hose.

Cleaning up the ends of the bolts after they were shortened.

Somehow grease/oil got onto the end of my beer bottle.....I rekon it was Lobes playin funny buggers lol.

Had previously taken a spring out of the head for some reason....obviously had to chuck it back in.

    Brad and Lobes!!

Finally got the other head on.....so much for having it done in one night haha.....up to night 3 I rekon....keep running into small problems. We'll get her finished tho!!

The motor all painted up. Not gonna use those rocker covers (obviously lol).....might have to dig out a chrome set....oh yeah, and excuse the mess lol.

The intake on, and a quady and filter just sitting there for the pic. Will clean the quady up b4 we chuck it on. Nearly finished!

Brad discovered a new, easier, way to torque up the flex plate bolts without having to have someone hold a screwdriver between the teeth of the ring gear. Just bolt an alternator bracket up to it!!

Here she is nearly ready to drop into the VH!

    An update.

Made some progress. Got it all in and hooked up. Ran into probs with the carby, swapped carby's, swapped fuel pumps, swapped the fuel pumps back again, then it works, carby started leaking, motor was smoking excessively, was hoping it was the diesel we used to clean it out with, turns out it's not, done a compression test on cyl 1 and it showed up 105psi, and went down as quick as it went up (took about 10 secs), not gonna bother with the rest....time for plan B!

Bought another 308 the other day. Had plans for it, but the VH is gonna get a motor....and the only ones left we got is another 308 short motor, 304 short motor, another 308 which belongs to my other bro....and this one I bought the other day. As it's complete.....she's goin in! Will make a start 2morrow.

Here's the reason why the POO-53 is comin out!

    Some new pics...

Plan B! The 253 is cactus......so, we'll chuck the 308 in, problem solved. Only bought it last week. Just needs new welch plugs and a new sump gasket, as the sump was changed over from a Kingswood sump.

I thought I'd take photo's of this coz alot of people don't realise how easy it is to change welch plugs. Only thing is, normally when they start leaking, people fix them when the motor is still in the car. We rip the f**ker out coz it doesn't take very long these days. But here's how they're done anyways.....

Use something to hit the edge of the welch plug in. A bigger hammer is better.

Now the plug will either pivot in the middle, or pop in...either way it's no biggy. Grab it with some pliers and just pull it out. A bit of force is normally required.

Sometimes it's easier to put sumfin under ur pliers like in the pic, so it gives ya more pivot, which makes it easier. Then just pull it out.

Once removed, get some sand paper and rub around the inside of the hole, just to clean off any shit.

Then use some gasket goo to put around the inside of the hole, as seen in the middle hole. This is to just help it seal. We use a Loctite non-hardening sealant, which we use for all our gaskets.

Place the welch plug over the hole, and use a socket to sit inside the plug, the socket needs to be a fraction smaller then the plug. Then start tapping it with a hammer to push it in. A bigger hammer is better, I use a 4lb hammer....still small, but got some weight behind it. Tap the plug in so it sits flush with the block, I wouldn't go any further then say 1mm into the block.

And the finished product! Good for another 20 years!

Lobes havin a piss......just pisses where he wants haha.

Me doin the welch plugs. :P

    Brad.

Lobes havin a beer...bloody draught shit! Gday Brad!

Brad torquing the main cap up to 500 ft lb's haha. Nah he saw Lobes snapping away with the camera so put the face on for the pic.

Doing up the oil pickup. The pickup and sump was changed from HQ to Commodore, so just have to do it all up.

    Torquing the main cap up.

Sump gasket. We use gasket goo on both sides.

    Brad cleaning up the sump.

    Lobes on the phone....again lol.

Spotted this just b4. The hole is there coz it leaks water when the seals are gone in the waterpump. And by the looks of this she's been leaking....so will chuck another waterpump on to be safe.

Does that first comment even make sense?? And yeah we got a bit of shit lying around, and it's a concrete floor, not dirt. We'll build a motor where ever we want. Just coz it's not the cleanest workshop around doesn't mean we can't work in it.

Small update, took it for a spin. Fixed the noisy trans, and the small oil leak which was leaking on the exhaust.
