    Default VH SL Project

    Hi after owning alot of cars (25 or so) and just selling my Ve SS and not knowing what I want next I decided on a project car until I decide what I want as an every day car.

    I searched for a while when I found this Red VH SL one owner, it has some rust, paint is ok, interior is pretty clean (came with the granpa blanket on the parcel shelf) and best of all the misses said I could buy it!

    its only a 202 but thats how I want to keep it. My plan of attack is as follows:

    Repair cracked floor pan under drivers seat;
    full service including cooling system;
    Repair rust;
    sle dash;purchased but tacho and speedo not working??? ideas??
    sle tail lights;
    sle bumpers;
    rebuilt 202 (any suggestions?) no suggestions of v8s as this is only a cruiser, I will have a v8 for normal driving purposes;
    rebuild trimatic;
    exhaust;
    carby;
    disc brake rear end; purchased 10 bolt salasbury 3.08 lsd.

    wheels of some sort? original? simmons;
    venetians.

    I hope you like it, it needs work and that is why I bought it, I love commodores and this one will be staying in the family for a long time to come.

    Mate

    Don't forget a set of super low kings, sway bars and shocks.
    Walkinshaws look good.

    Go for it.

    looks like a good car to start with.
    wheels are a personal opinion thing, but I agree with VBRED, something like Walkinshaw or 16/17 inch Simmons wheels would look good on an early girl like this. Personally I think huge diameter wheels on early model Commodores look completely out of place. Wheel diameter is too big for the gaurds - ends up looking like a hotwheels toy Keep the big dinner plate wheels for the late models like VE that swallow up anything smaller than 18's!

    16's or even 17's, with a good negative offset looks tough on the early models.
    Good luck with it

    How are you fixing the floor under the seat?

    I have just bought a VH wagon that has the same problem and has to be fixed for the roadworthy. I've heard it's a common problem.

    Thanks

    I welded the floor with a mig welder, I had a crack about 30cm long and also cracked the reinforcing for the seat, took me a while to do as you need to remove the seat and the carpet and cover everything up.

    if you can weld its not too difficult.

    Hey guys, I bought a new motor today, 202 bored to 208 and also has some sort of ford crank, mild head work stage 3 cam.

    it also came with extractors and a 350 holley,unfortunately the engine is untested but I am going to send it to a mechanic to have a look over it before being fitted.

    does anyone have any transmission places in sydney they recommend? time for the trimatic to be rebuilt.

    I also bought a pair of vs commodore front brakes as an upgrade so they should also be going on shortly.

    the work begins!
