Cool My New 84' VK V8 EFI

    Hello to everyone!

I have just bought a Holden Commodore 1984 VK, V8 5L EFI, 5 speed manual! Yay!
I am from Europe and always had euro turbo cars.
Now that I am living in Australia i wanted a Ozzy v8! - so i bought one..

    It has:
    - HDT group A body kit
    - 16 inch simmons F90 rims
    - lowered on king springs
    - mini spool
    - battery in the boot
    - brakes machined and a new 1 inch master cylinder fitted.
    - car has a pretty good newish Red paint job! looks sexxy!

I thought it was a good deal: I payed 1600$ for it with no rego tho.. Is that a Ok deal?
I needs some work, but i'm more than happy to work on this car!

Here are some pictures of the VK V8 i bought!

Please let me know what you guys think!
    Thanks,
    Mati

    Cool Yay

    Hello,

When I say the car needs work, there are heaps of minor things that need fixing..
You know, To make the car nice and good.
I haven't had much time yet to have a detailed look at the whole car. I will do that tomorrow.
I was told that the car does not have to be engineered for this V8 upgrade.
But for the $$ i think it will be a good project!
    Thanks!

it does have to be engineered, later model engine in an early car, requires cat(s), noise test for that model car, unleaded filler neck basically has to comply with the ADRs for the car the engine came from

regardless for $1600 you scored a bargin

    cheers

    Cool Some new Photos

    Heya,

So I had a further look at the VK today. Everything looks so good and so clean!
I already started fixing up a few things in the interior and around the car.
My local Wrecker has 2 VK's there.. yay!

I found this funny switch by the gear stick.. You can turn it, and at one point it even starts the car.??

    Anyway,

Here are some photos I took today:

Shiny sexy beast at its new home.

Sexxy view from the back. I will be getting a 3" twin Exhaust. I love the Spoiler!

    Perfect 16" Simmons original rims.

Brand new 1" brake booster and machined rotors.

Big Holden 5L V8 EFI. It reves so well..

Big Boot. Battery has been moved to the boot. Sweet!

Nice Look at that! I tough mini spool diff. On super low king springs.

ANYONE: Do you know what this is? You can twist the centre bit and you can even start the car like that.?? What is it?

Let me know what you guys think!

hey mate, that is for the auto box so you cannot start the car in drive/reverse. as its now manual you can either remove it and join two wires or if you leave it, it may need to be in a certain position to start. good buy bud. if you wanna sell. PM me

$1600 would be a good price if it was a carbed 308, but that's a steal for an EFI 5L 5sp VK
Should come up really well with some TLC. Looks like the paint need a rub down with wet&dry

    Cool V8 service time

    Hello,

So i am slowly starting to fix up all the small bits and pieces on the car..
Im hoping to have it on the road within like 3 weeks.

I want to give the car a full service, before i start driving it much.
    I would like to change:
    - Spark plugs
    - Engine Oil
    - Manual Gearbox oil (is it possible?)
    - Diff oil
    - Leads, dizzy Cap, Rotor, (Igniton Coil)?
    - Put some nice green coolant in, Its all rusty now!
Anything else that could use a change?

Can you guys please tell me what viscosity of Oils I need and what plugs and what I should do for a good service and a tune up??

    Thanks for the advice!,
    Mati

    Question Progress on my VK

    Hey guys,

SO, Over the past few weeks I have been slowly getting the VK ready and all fixed up..
I just passed my rego check so i'm happy! YaY!

There is a Major problem tho..
Wherever I drive, the car started pissing out oil.. It is leaking from around the distributor or leaking from the intake manifold.. Then it just drips and flows all over the tranny.

    What could be causing this?
    How can I fix this?

    Many thanks,
    Mati

    Hello,

I have recently purchased a Holden VK with the Holden 304 5L EFI engine.

OK: The engine started leaking oil, I noticed when I parked and there was a big puddle of oil underneath, Now whenever I drive there is oil just dripping and leaking. Now I am not driving the car until i fix it..

I have Inspected the Valve covers and gaskets and they are fine, It is not leaking for there.

The leak seems to be coming from the Rear of the Intake manifold / distributor area.. Today I cleaned all around the rear of the intake, started the car up, and after 5 minutes I see oil leaking.. So it has to be coming from somewhere there..
What should I do in this situation? Should I just remove the whole Intake manifold? Are there any tricks?

    Here are some Photos:

This is the 304 V8.. Im pretty happy with it.

This is where it is Leaking from. You can see the Oil.

That is the best photo i could take, So i am assuming that it has to be leaking from there somewhere?

This is the top view, You can see a bit of oil where the intake manifold meets the block..

I appreciate any help on how to fix this problem..
    Thank a lot to Everyone,
    Mati

It looks like it might be leaking out the manifold rear seal - unfortunately you have to remove the manifold and install new gaskets to fix that
