great work, tidy conversion!
well you've seen it.... you've heard it....
have you driven it yet!
cheers daz! yeah just got it all legit yesterday arvo. got the exhaust done yesterday too! i went with 2-1/2from the headers into redback 200cpi cats and merged the two 2-1/2's into 3" at the diff and a lukey hiflo muffler mounted just after it. i wasnt sure on the rear mounted muffler on how it would be but the xhaust dude reccomended it....dunno if there is any advantage to it. has no drone either..which is great!
my only criticism is your camera lol...but great job mate looks tough i like what youve done
the good thing about getting older....more toysthe bad news more headaches
i see the qld plates where are ya located mate id love to see this thing in the flesh
time to start considering some internal engine work!....but where do ya start???
what could ya get/do for about 3-5 grand???.
dont want FI unless its a 6/71...and that aint happening any time soon!
keep saving and go 355, you could buy the stoker kit for that but you will need machining and balancing then tune....

havent done to much research on a stroker setup as yet.
what kinda cam setup would go with a stroker kit?
doin this kinda work you have to rebuild everything and upgrade injectors, fuel pump, ect
doin somethin like this youd have no change outa 10grand id imagine, the mrs already chopped off 1 nut from all the other work ive done...... dunno if i can sacrifice another..hahaha
maybe a cam + heads + tune might be the go. get a set of heads mildly ported with decent springs and roller rockers and skim as much metal off the face as u can to up the compression as much as possible. cos the efi 5L has some lousy compression ratio standard, 8.9:1 or something.
this thread could be interesting reading Stock 304, Guide to choosing a camshaft
a dual plane manifold with a 4bbl throttle body would also be good for a street setup but throwing one of those in the mix too could blow the budget
scored a clean virgin vs block...goin to build up a 355 from scratch with all the goodies to go with
Very nice mate. All the hard work has payed of. Looking at your perfect car makes me want to strip mine down an start again.
new block just been cleaned up,
oil tracks in the valley deburred and polished up,
heads on the way (getn a full port job), sump on the way,
stroker kit sittin there ready to be fitted at the builders.
cam kit on order! (solid)
starting to get the ball rolling...still a fair bit to go....chasing 500hp from this one
haha nice to see ya bit the bullet and went stroker .. .what kit did ya get and what comppresion will ya run. solid cam will be nice but youll have to learn how to adjust roller rockers .. 500hp should be easy enough if you got something like 10:1 comp and decent cam+heads. good luck mate
If in doubt......FLOOR IT!!!
goin the whole hog on this one!
scat crank(knife edged counterweights), hbeams, srp flat forgies, 4bolt mains, line bore, 30thou over maybe 40. full port n polish on the heads...was told the cast heads will flow max to about 580....so thats what their gettin. crane 288 solid, dbl row springs ect ect. harrop or TP little paw s/p hrise manifold...leanin towards the TP as it has more torque than the harrop apparently. 4grand stally and about 11:1 comp. freshin up the diff with some 3.55 gears.
so im aiming for about 1.5hp per cubic inch. its goin to jack bros for the bottom end assembly and somewhere else for the heads....maybe! they said 500 is do-able....ive seen 308's pull 440 with a freshin up and mild head work so it shouldnt be too bad. my main concern is streetability...not really tho as it will only be a weekender with a trip to the strip and pwrcrz this year hopefully.
Hey darren! whats the go with lakeside track....wouldnt mind takin it up there oneday! dont know where it is either.
hahah i love it how things start as just a freshen up then nek minnit full blown stroker![]()
If in doubt......FLOOR IT!!!
haha tell me about it! i read too many forums too much and get carried away with it all and never settle for anything as a simple freshen up....ive only got myself to blame haha. goin to be a slow build this one, hopefully have it ready for pwrcrz this year..if not ohwell!
Just some updated pix after a clean,
fitted the stock external door trims just to throw some more chrome on it and brake up the black!
