Default VK Wagz EFI 5L 5spd

Just bought another VK wagon to put the turbo 253 motor into, but it's doing my head in so decided to let the turbo motor sit for a while, and I'll go on with something else.

I didn't wanna wreck my defected VS stato as it was too nice, so swapped it for a VN 5L 5spd and decided to throw the running gear into the new VK! Never done a EFI 5L conversion b4, but been doing a bit of reading on it and watched a few builds and it seems pretty simple. As we've got most of the gear already, thought we'd give it a crack and throw it 2gether for C4C next month. Hopefully it all goes fine lol.

    The new VK wagz.

    The donor car.

Pulled the motor out of the VK last night.

And 2night done a bit more, now the motor and box in the VN is nearly ready to be pulled out. Well we're dropping the hole front suspension and lifting the body over the top, and will drop the VK into the VN suspension. Just got the kframe bolts to undo and she'll be ready to come off....but gotta go to work so that's it for 2night.

We only spend a few hours a day on it (me bro Brad knocks off at 5pm, I start work at 10pm, so we normally only work on them after he knocks off and b4 I go to work lol) so it isn't gonna happen overnight, but shouldn't take us too long.

    Will keep ya's updated.

Haha yeah mate still got the red wagon and the other white wagon. The red wagon is gonna get scrapped coz we really need some room here....well we'll see anyway. We'll still do the turbo motor, got it on the engine frame in the shed and I plan to run it on that until it's running all good, then drop it into a car. The other white wagz (in my sig) is still sitting with a defect. Was gonna try and get the defect off of that and put the new motor in for C4C but it needs alot of work and I don't wanna rush it.

Only really doing this coz we can, and we've never done one b4. We love playing with cars, but when we get sick of one we'll have a break and move on to another haha. This one seems pretty straight forward so I rekon we should get it done in one hit. Altho the motor is a bit dirty so I could chuck a gasket kit thru it...but just gonna leave it until it's done a few k's in the VK then we'll yank it back out again and clean it up. Anyways just woke up and got a few hours up me sleeve so might go try getting the 5L and box out...only a few bolts left to do lol

Yeah mate, we only got 3 lol.

The EFI 5L will bolt up to the original VK kframe, but then we'll have to run aftermarket extractors and probably have clearance issues with the rack (apparently the extractors run to close and harden all the rubber seals). So just swapping the whole lot over so we can use the VN extractors (hopefully should fit) and shouldn't run into many clearance issues!

    Here's a few pics from 2night.

This is me little bro....yeah I was wearing his jacket b4 in the other pic, we don't have 2 the same. But yeah welding the frame under so we can roll it.

Got work in a few hours, then we're going racing 2morrow when I knock off, then will flake it 2morrow arvo and get back into it Monday hopefully!!

Nah....will order some more R&S series plates. Does SNO202 make sense or does that just sound stupid? Suppose to sound like "It's no 202".....but yeah there's not much of a variety to choose from with the R&S plates, and I'm not overly creative lol.

Battery tray removed. Last time/first time we done this was on me other white wagon, and that turned out to be a pretty bad hack job lol. This one turned out heaps better. Welded up the holes, grinded them back and will just primer it for now.

Trying to make the battery fit over the other side. Will cut the tray down a bit more and I rekon we'll be all good! Might be a bit of an inconvenience to adjust the headlight, but it's not sumfin ya do everyday so she'll be sweet! lol.

Thx for the pic mate. Unfortunately the power steering pump is in the way of it in just about every position except where it is at the moment. Was even thinkin I might cut a recess into the inner wheel well, but might just try and fit it without going that far unless we really have to.

Still got it. Just not 100% sure on its future lol. Still doin the turbo motor, but prolly should just get rid of the red wagz coz we got to many cars here. Only got it to put the turbo motor into, but that's mounted to an engine frame in the shed and can start it on that.

Yeah that's another option, but really wanna keep it in the original spot so I don't have to change much wiring. I rekon I got it sussed tho aye, will finish it off 2morrow and see how we go!

Battery is mounted. Got another VL tailshaft, this one must of been right coz it fits. Got a VL intermediate shaft, that fits too. The VK clutch cable is hooked up to the T5, looks like it should work. Moved the gear shifter plate back about 10mm. Used the fuel line out of the red wagz to go under this wagz to use as the return line. Put the VL tank in with the VR pump. Have made the wiring loom to power it up. Soon fella's, soon!

    Battery.

    Small update...

Had a small drama with the fuel pump relay not switching on. But soon got it sorted. The video is the first time it's cranked over since coming out of the VN. Started first go! I'm stoked!

Just made a quick diagram. Attached it.

Few things tho. The green and blue wires on the grey VN plug are the water temp sender (green) and oil psi sender (blue) wires. The water temp should be ok (I haven't hooked these 2 up yet), but the EFI 304 uses a different oil sender so not sure if it will work with the VK gauge.

On the VK engine harness connector (the one near the firewall next to the brake booster), the pink and yellow need to be joined coz the pink only has 12v during the 'on' position, and the yellow has 12v during the 'start' position. There's 2 pink wires tho, one thicker then the other. Ya use the thinner one, which matches the rest of the wires.

The ignition source for wire on the white plug I didn't join to the same ignition source as wat switches the EFI relay, only coz the EFI relay ignition source is in the engine bay, and the white plug on the VN loom is under the dash next to the ECU. I just started stabbing all the pink wires (using a test light) in the main VK loom behind the dash until I found one which had 12v during 'on' and 'start', then spliced into it.

On the fuel pump relay, I fused both the 12v source, and the output. Prolly didn't really need to tho.

I chopped out all the plugs in the VN which the loom connected to, and left a few inches of each wire on the plugs (to identify them, and to solder the new wires to). That way I make my loom using those plugs, and the VN loom will plug straight in. I done the same thing with the VK engine harness connector, as the engine harness for the 202 was no longer required, so snipped the plug and wired that into my loom so it would plug straight into the VK loom.

The plugs contain more wires for other things as well, but this diagram is just wat I've used so far to get it running and drivable. I haven't hooked up the wire to switch the thermo fans, or the torque converter lockup, neatral safety switch or even the speed sensor (will do the speed sensor soon tho), plus some other things.
