Well that's the dash & wiring loom out of the old girl, drill out a few spot welds & that'll be the frame out as well so making progress. Least its a bit cooler today, that shed gets like an oven most days. Should have the whole front completely stripped this arvo, then can get into the parts wagon & start swapping every thing over......

Well that's me for the day, she's completely stripped. Dash frame is out as well as the front end, weather permitting i'll start on the parts wagon tomorrow. Found a bit more rust but i'll soon sort that, shes done well considering she's 31 years old. So yeah pretty happy with today's effort....

Well that's the radiator support welded in, be easy to make some brackets to support the front stone tray to which i was a bit worried about. On the hunt for a new stone tray as the one on her's pretty messy, wouldnt take much to whip it off and change it with where she's at at pres....
Start pulling the front end out of the parts wagon soon, not sure what else i'll do today. Heaps to do so just tackle what ever job jumps at me next lol

Slowly making progress with the old girl, got to get some supplies to get some of the bigger stuff done. Figured out a plan for the heater wiring yesterday, i'm going to use the Vc heater with the Vl dash and was thinking i'll have to get a sparky to sort but i sure wont. As many will know the early heater switches burnt out so i'm going to use the Vc controls with a separate switch to operate the fan, for wires to lengthen up to the Vc heater fan & problem solved. So that's one problem solved.
Now next one to sort, has anyone got a picture of a Vk windscreen rubber on the inside. The Vc's have an edge that sticks out to fill the void up to the dash, that's going to stop the Vl dash top going right back so need to sort a plan there. I've seen pics of people cutting it back but that looks messy as so not keen on that idea. Touch wood a Vk one will solve the prob, they're a better looking unit anyway.
Well back to the shed & see what i can do today....

I've trimmed that rubber back enough to get the dash in but hopefully the Vk rubbers better suited, will do some checking.
Got the dash frame sitting in there till i get some welding wire, done a trial fit of everything & looks good to. Will be getting a Calais instrument cluster at some stage soon as hate that blue criss cross crap on the standards ones, good to see it coming together slowly but surely......

Getting a bit done on the old girl, mounted the air box & got a good plan for a cold air intake with that. I'll get some photos up when it's done, all the wiring holes have been drilled so once i weld up some unwanted holes in the firewall & fix that floor rust i can fit the loom in. Got the floor section 2 3rds out of the parts wagon, just a mission with those bloody spot welds lol. Hope my welding wire turns up soon then can get a heap done, i buy it online because the shops sell it for $56 over here yet you can get it online for $33.
Started cleaning up the passengers side in the engine bay, i'll get that side done 1st. Not sure what i'll do on her today but i'll soon figure that when i hit the shed.....

    And heres my fun part....

Well that floor section was a different shape so im going to use part of it, the tunnel to floor section fits well so i'll weld that in & just make the rest out of panel steel. A pain in the rear but least once shes done she wont go there again in a hurry, got her back on her wheels again which is a bonus. I live in Christchurch Nz so get a bit paranoid having her on stands with all the quakes we keep getting here, makes it interesting when your under the car when one hits i tell ya lol

Havent got anything done in the last few days, either been to busy or the weathers been crap. Got all my supplies i needed though so either this arvo or tomorrow i'll be back into the old girl, 1st job will be to weld the dash frame in & finish the l/h side of the engine bay & get that in primer. Hope to get the engine in in the next 7 to 10 days then i can sort the trans cross member & get her all wired up to go.....

I sure will be some updates in the next couple of days, shes a tidy one for sure just that bit of rust to sort in the floor. They all go in the same place over here but i'll soon sort that and make sure shes sealed so you wont go there again....

She's sure taking shape bit by bit. Looking good so far.
Yes the VK rubber is the one you want for dash clearance. Also looks alot neater on the outside as it doesn't have the metal trim on it like VH or the bead like vb vc.

Cheers....seen quite a few on forums asking how to do this conversion so thought i'd document it to help anyone else who wants to do the same. I'll get some more pics up today or tomorrow, just welded the dash frame in and a few factory holes in the engine bay. Want to get the left hand side of the engine bay done so i can mount the fuse box and fit the wiring into her.....

Thought i better update this, haven't got a lot done in last couple of weeks. Joys of a back injury, anyways im 3/4's of the way threw smoothing out the left hand side of the engine bay. Welded the brackets on for the fuse box & mounted that, dash frames welded in & got part of the floor done. The battery tray on the parts wagon was rusty but as i thought 1 of the mitsi wagons i wrecked out for parts for my daily will work perfect so i'll get that mounted this week. Once i finish the floor & weld some brackets under the dash to support the wiring loom i can start putting the interior back together, so yeah making progress slowly but surely........

Bit of an update.....body's been playing up pretty bad so haven't got a lot done of late but anyways i've got the floor finished so that's one less job to do
Needed to sell my daily as it was manual and needed an auto so sold that and picked this up for $1200
Not a bad score i thought, it's far from mint but looks the part and goes real well....
Next mission on the Vc when i can get to it is finish the engine bay and run the loom, hope to get that done in the next couple of weeks

Haven't got much done on this lately but going to get stuck back in real soon, just been collecting bits lately. Thinking of putting a Vh front on it, just need to find a right front guard & bonnet and it'll be all go. But if i cant find decent panels i'll stick with the Vc front....
