All i know is its a 6 cylinder, and a 5speed Manual.
The ball joint is gone on it and im gettin it repaired next friday. Everything else seems good. I want to work on this and get it dumped and rims And eventually a respray.
Please help me recognise what type it is and your ideas on how to work on this project and make it good would be awesome![]()

Welcome,
Great site, Great moderators. Great Members.
just be careful though:
I am on two warnings already. I didn't take the time to read rules properly.
1. Not only no porn, but nothing offensive of any nature
2. Don't Flame ( get abusive if someone else doesn't see your point of view!)
3. Don't talk about any illegal hooning which you may have / have not done, this could be used in evidence against you in a court of law. there are many of the boys in blue which are members of this forum. good blokes too. any questions for them, theres a thread which you've probably already seen.

damn good condition VK if u ask me, usually all the VK's i see are clapped![]()
Yeah, well aprantly this model has a bad gearbox fault in them, i just need to get that slight dent out on the side its minor if you can see in pic. only thing missin is a bit on the side bumper. and one door doesnt lock properly, but im getting the ball joint done asap. Was going to get jap crap(honda civic) but i wanted to go commodorethanks for welcoming. Im only 16 and on my L's i work and get youth allowance so on that budget i have to do this car up and do driving lessons for my log book. i earn aprox 258$ a fortnight.
Anyone able to work out what year? I thought it was a VK but not sure.
VK 1984 - 1985 I'm pretty sure

If the internal door locks operate vertically (as on most older cars) it is an 84 if they operate left to right it's an 85. At least I think that is correct. The later and last VKs had the horizontal locks. Rego papers and Compliance plate will confirm year.
Looks in good condition.
As for the gearbox fault the only problem I have heard of is that they like to collect sand like all 1971 - 1985 Holdens. Basically the same gearbox . They are not a terribly strong unit and without due care or service can die quiet easily.
If looked after they will last forever.
The one problem I do know of in the VK is the centre Uni joint and bearing, in the two piece tailshaft, fail all too often. If when you drive it there is a noise, vibration or knock that appears to be coming from just behind the drivers seat, check the bolts that hold the bearing in place first as they can become loose, before removing the tailshaft. A tip just in case.
Have fun doing her up.
Is it fuel injected?

ok i just went outside into it, and to look for the boot handle to make it pop up to lift it up and i cannot find it, anyone know where it is? or i'll have to wait for my dad to come home, but then i'll post pics of the engine etc
um right in the right corner under the dash. above ur pedals. i think (if its tha same as vh)
then itll pop tha bonnet and then put ur hands in tha gap between tha bonnet and grille and just to tha right of tha centre there shud be a lever there, just pull that up and then pull ur bonnet up (if u get wot i mean)
Nice car and a great starter.
Less of the electronics to plague you. A mate of mine prefers them to the newer stuff, he has a few spare cars for parts.
One thing with the older cars is replacing suspension bits and pieces as unless it's been well maintained they can be a bit clunky.
This site has some great pics and specs of Holdens through the ages.
