This is my first car. Mum and Dad bought for me. It had a reconditioned motor about 2.5 years ago and a 2 1/5" exhaust and came with a complete (almost) recovered VK Calais interior. So over the next year and a half or so me and Dad stripped the inside out and put in the Calais interior and Dad gave the body a full respray. But i never took any progress shots.

nice lookin vb mate, just need some nice rims to fill the guards now
Ive replaced the front strut tops last weekend because the other ones where stuffed and i couldnt get it properly wheelaligned with the old ones. Heres a link to some more pics of my car: rock_guy_666 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Looks like a good job on the old VB. - One of the first things I did with my VB was to add the extra 2 gauges and paint the silver cluster cover flat black. Hated the bright silver bit.

Yeah, looks mint. Love it.
One thing, any issues trying to get a RW/Rego with a red motor in it? I thought older motors were illegal on newer cars?

I reckon VBs came with red 202s they just have to have a polution bottle conected and ive registered it once but have never looked into a RWC
Red motors are standard in VB commodores, they changed to blue motors in the VC, and black motors in the VK.
p.s Lovely car, i have a VC SL/e V8... Good to see there are still good Vb-vk cars out there.
very nice vb you there mate take good care of it
Thanks guys its good to see some people actually still like early model commodores all my mates reckon i sould get a R31 Nissan Skyline or something like that and i was considering getting one of those but i eventualy decided against it because of all the work i put into it.
Also do any of you guys know of any cheap or 2nd hand LPG systems for my car in SA because i dont really wana have to fork out up to 60-80 buxs a week for petrol
Cheers vb_commie
Gas is for BBQs
Car looks tuff as it is. Maybe add some SL/E bumber sides, VK front indicators, and VL Mirrors.
Also for the other guys, SA doesn't need RWC, so it wouldn't matter about the motor.

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
Oh ohk, i've heard of people with VHs doing it, i thought the headlights were the same VB-VK.
Are they angled differently or something?

I was thinkin about putting a RB30 from a VL in my car sometime soon has anyone hear done it or know someone thats done it and can give me a write up or somethings to watch out for and some pics would be pretty helpful to. The best way to get it to me would probably be e mail. Im at fullysik878@hotmail.com
Cheers vb_commie
Oh okay, That would make sense then, seeing as the VB was 78?/79.
I also didn't know that RWC wasn't mandatory to get rego in SA, that's kinda cool, but crazy at the same time. Dosn't a car have to pass any sort of conditions to be able to get rego?
An RB30 VB.......nice!

Bit of an update. I have had a job as a pizza delivery boy for the best part of a year so the car has been on the road for all of that. It has held up pretty well considering in that time I changed the oil and filter once at the start and only had it serviced towards the end. It runs a bit rough but I think that is the LPG system not being tuned to 100%.
Anyways Ive quit that job now and have bought a 1981 Celica as a runabout so I can put the Commodore away and fix up a few things when its rego runs out. The plans for a RB30 into have passed me by for now and while its off the road I might drop a 308 in. Ill let you know how I go with that though...
Hey VB COMMIE nice ride mate brings back memories big time the colour is very similar to the one i had 12 yrs ago!!!!!!!
keep it goin mate dont give up on it!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks guys.
Ive been pretty tempted to give up on it just lately but after the mechanic serviced it and gave it a once over he said it was in really good condition mechanically for its age and once I got a few minor things fixed it would be A1, and get it tuned properly while running on LPG. He also said that for what I could afford (SFA) i would just be buying a car that is another set of problems.
So Ive decided to stick with it and finish the project me and Dad started over three years ago and hopefully make it just that little bit more desirable by whacking a 308 in it.![]()
GOOD to hear mate get some more pics UPDATED ones on here!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the reasurance.![]()
Theres not really much to update looks or upgrade wise to warrant new pics just the odd chip in the paintand seat covers. Ohh and a burgandy steering wheel Ive painted beige but is flaking off majorly.
Will post more pics when Ive got something worthy of update pics.![]()
nice vb mate, any updates?
Nah, I just got a spare parts interpreter apprenticeship so Ive only got a little bit of money to play with ATM.
I may well not have anything to update about for atleast a few months although its duel fuel and due for a LPG service pretty soon so I may be able to conceal that as an update.![]()
