Hi all new to the forum and now bak into a commodore.
Ive had nealr every model from VB-VT over the years up unitl 2 1/2 years ago when my family grew to the point where it was just too small VT berlina.
A long strory short I was looking ofr a newish model ute to use for work and had a look at a few and most were rough unitl I stumble across my VH.
An opertunity too good to refuse despite no reg or roadworthy and the bug bit again........
She is..
253 Auto SLE in unbeleivably good condition with 150 000km on the clock and no reason to beleive this is wrong.
Completely original interior (except steering wheel) including carpets and roof liner UNMARKED.
All electricals......unmolested except for the fitting of a car alarm.
Engine has had work dont know how much but has different rocker covers and a holley 350 on top (not for long)
the only rust in the right rear quarter and easy fix.
I paid $610 for it sight unseen previous to handing over the cash. (not like me) and having never driven it.
Got it home and checked it out.
in the last 6 months new bushes all round, new lower arms, new disks and pads, new springs shocks new head lights indicators and tail lights.
found all the recipts under the passsanger seat.
when I picked it up the seller told me I couldnt drive it cause it wouldnt idle..Im thinking what have I got my self in for but took it anyway thinking yeh carbie kit and battery maybe new plugs lead coil etc.
Other than a carbie kit and a new battery it's all good so Its off for a clean underneath and a check over for any leaks and fix them then its off for a raody and rego so should eb back on the road inside a week WooHoo.
Now for the pics as I picked it up
New wheels and tyres.
More to follow of the progress putting it on the road and back to its former glory with my touches.
forgot to metion it has had a body kit on it removed before I got it.
If anyone around sees one for sale sing out Group3/A any condition I'd love to put one back on.
Remember seeing this on ebay a few times, started off at 2500 and worked its way down. I made him an offer of $500 but he wouldn't take it, had some plans in store for a VH, good buy you got, best of luck with it.
What a bargincan't believe no one would pay more, The day of the VH isn't far away now. I have one in my shed and the amount of people that ask if I will sell it is pretty high. Sure the prices are still low but with the amount of interest people have in them they will go up fairly soon. Once you get it on the road you will notice quite a few people wanting to buy it off you
I agree with you greenfoam. I hav a vh sedan and i've had 4 offers and that they want to buy it from me. I never going to sell it!! I might give it to my son one day...
MISSING
WIFE AND DOG
REWARD FOR DOG!!
I saw this on ebay too haha was going to get it but i got a vb off ebay instead for $200 goodluck with it mate it was certainly a great buy
nice car mate cant go wrong with a vh
Thaks guy for the comments
I must say this VH has been a dream to work on compared to my last one. I dont think I will be getting rid of it in a hurry.
I have been pritty buisy getting it ready for roadworthy having had to replace a couple of seal and putting all the emmissions gear back on it.
I have had a little trouble with the carbie but we are getting there and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
If anyone has an exploded view of a rochester carbie as fitted to a GMH engine that'd be good otherwise ill just persit with it, at least unitl the road worthy is done.
Plans on the horizon........well they are getting longer.
Group 3 body kit priority#1
Full bare metal respray .....this is high on the list and will happen once the kit has been fitted up.
308/strocker engine. just need to build it.
On the road must happen first as this is going to be my daily driver so I can give the 4x4 a much earned holiday and give it some maintenance.
Cheers
Brad
Looking goodwould love to see this car at a cruise
or we could all go to your house this weekend via Arthurs Seat
![]()
Would love to go on the cruise but im out all weekend for wedings and stuff
The car has been a bit of a nitemare.
I have had a few issues with the holley someone bolted up to it, so I rebuilt it tuned it and was still not happy with it so decided to go back to original and bolt on a rochester.
Long story short after 4 quaddies I now have 1 good one and a heap of parts and just a tune to do.
Have had to replace all the hoses as although they looked good on the outside they started to split and spring leaks when I was testing carbies. NOT HAPPY!
Had some chargin issues and found under the nice new conduit the engine bay wirning had been butchered so I ended up re-building the loom with a drawing on my garage floor so I can make up a new modified and better loom when time permits.
Got a major leak on the gear box so pulled it out and put all new seals and gaskets through that and adjusted the bands and what not, now back in and as yet untested-due tot he carbie work.
I put in a HEI distributor thinking I had a distributor issue to find out they are a peice of the proverbial so rebuilt the dizzy too.
So its been a buisy few weeks.
And to add to it I am heavily considering putting in a bigger donk sooner rather than later- the wife none to impressed that the garage is very quickly turning into a mechanics workshop when I promissed it wouldnt as i wasnt going to do the full blown build thing again.
All in all should be ready to go and very reliable once the tune is done![]()
As it turned out, it wasnt a tune required to smooth it out and stop it from stalling and pig rooting all the time.
As a last resort I pulled the manifold off and found that the manifold was loose and the gaskets wernt sealing properly, new gaskets later it is finaly ready for rego Wooo Hooo now just need to get the roady and book it in with vic roads and hope I havnt missed anything.
