    Default My VK 5.0L Wagon

Firstly, thanks to those that have offered their advice in my past threads - it's been very much appreciated and has given me some ideas to work with.

So, we (my husband and I) picked up the wagon yesterday - well, the tilt tray did, as it's out of rego.

It's a bit rough at the moment and in desperate need of a tub as it's been sitting out in a yard (in a rural area) for the past 6 months or so.

Here's some pics of it now - I'll update again as I get things done to it.

A couple of questions though while I'm here.....

Am I able to buy these buttons from somewhere (after-market or genuine) or do I just have to fluke someone selling them or do a desperate search through the wreckers?

And does anyone know what these wheels come off? I'm 98% certain their commodore wheels (they're 17" rims) and while they're a bit scuffed, I'm happy to keep them for now - but they're all missing the centres and would like to be able to get some new ones (or second hand) if I can manage to find them - but it would help to know what they're off.

So we have a few things we want to get done to it before we take it for the blue slip - a full service to start. The carby could do with a kit through it. We'll keep the 4 barrell on for now. It's sprung a leak from both rocker cover gaskets, so that will get fixed up. I'll take it down for a auto trans service. It's needs tidying up inside with all the wiring that someone didn't bother fixing up when they've installed the stereo and I need to source a few interior parts as well.

Once it's totally roadworthy I'll start looking at some more performance options. Thanks to Danny8 for the suggestion of the cam/lifter/valve springs - that will be the first port of call I think, and then we'll try to find some extractors.

The point of this car isn't to bring it up to show or race standards but purely to give me (a mum who's been desperate for a 5.0L all her life) to finally get a little bit of a thrill when she drops her son off to school each day .

I can't wait until she's on the road. Although I will be sad when my first baby - VL Berlina is put out to pasture - she's been such a great car to me - but it's time to move on.

    Thanks for looking .

Overall it doesn't look to bad. The wheels look like copies of the 18" monaro mags....not sure of their name tho.

Regarding ur motor, here's some links to some people on ebay who I've bought some gear through. Not sure if I've given u the links before or not.

eBay Australia Shop - Melb Carbs Injectors: INJECTORS, THROTTLE BODYS, HOLLEY
I bought a varajet carby off of this mob, they do quadrajets and holley's and a few other bits and pieces as well. Prices don't seem to bad either.

    eBay My World - willyengines
And these guys we've bought a few cam, spring and lifter packages off of. Prices vary from time to time, one pack we got was $220 inc postage, another was $240....so around that. They might not lift everything as a package, but just send them a msg and ask about it. The cam is a dynotec, lifters were Nason, and the LT1 springs were speedpro.

Let me know how ya go.....if I ever finish assembling my VK wagz I'm defintely gonna get rid of the 173 and chuck a 5.0L in it.

Doesn't look that bad condition considering!

The buttons you'll just have to hope someone sells a complete set, might try rarespares but i doubt they'll still sell them.

The wheels look like VR HSV (GTS). They will have ROH and HSV engraved on the back (on seperate spokes)

Cheers for the link to the buttons - I'll pick up a set right now.

Thanks too for the links Danny - I'll have go have a looksee.

Hmm, another question after looking at my pics.

The badges on the back - does anyone know if they're just stuck on or if they have the pins that go into the body? I hate badges with a passion and would love to get rid of them, but if they have pins then I'll leave them on.

My wagon didn't have any pins in the badges on the back!

    Pretty neat. 5.0.......very nice.

The wires make the interior look instantly crappy though.
