im glad its easy than. im going to hook it all up tonight looks pretty easy with the bullet connections.
just one thought though, they dont really include any flexible conduit with it. i wasnt happy with how the wires bent over on themselves when you closed the door. eventually they will snap from all the opening and closing, so (and feel free to not do this cos' it is a little dodgie) i drilled a 8mm hole on the door and sealed it with a grommet, then drilled a 12mm hole on the A pillar and put a grommet in. then got a coat hanger and cut around 180mm and bent it in a curved shape which i wrapped into the loom really tight so it wouldnt move.
the idea is that when you open the door, the 8mm grommet and loom doesnt move at all, but the 10mm grommet allows the loom to slide in and out, the curved shape is the angle the wire takes when the door is open. making sense? so that way the wire doesnt fold over, it rotates in and out of the A pillar. the only downfall is that the 10mm side isnt sealed against the weather, so it may get water in it.
just a thought. you will understand what i mean when you get to that part![]()
haha yeah reading it dont really get it. but im sure ill understand it a bit more when im putting it all in
thanks
well somehow you have to get 5 wires (on the drivers side, the rest are 2 wires) out of the car and into your door, the best place is in the jam. the distance between the door and the jam when the door open is something like 70mm but when its closed is around 10mm, so your 70mm length of wire has to fold in half if both ends dont move. im suggesting that you allow one side to move backwards and forwards, so instead of folding over, it stays straight. either way, you still need to drill holes in the door to run the wires. unless you run the wires behind your door card, but that would look hideous and i would imagine will damage the card eventually.
im doing a terrible job explaining myself![]()
i kinda get it now. still havnt fitted it yet the car got painted tonight so looks like its tomorrows job then fit the car all back up.
have you had any trouble with cutting out the locks on yours ari666?
cutting out the locks? as in welding up the holes the cylinders go in? shaved style?
yeah but like with the whole locking system. if the central locking screwed up you wouldnt be able to get in aye.
just wondering because i might do it to mine in a few months
well at the moment i have still got the drivers side barrel lock in so if i have a flat battery i can still use a key. i have a solution if you wanna shave the handles but you will have to PM me, cos im not posting it online.![]()
tonight started fitting actuators took ages. back doors were easy but spent hours on front doors trying to figure it out. ended up taking window out and putting it straight onto lock.
lol, i dont even understand what you mean. how is it all comin along?
got them all fitted. not to bad when you figure out how to weld them. im looking for these rubber boots to put over wires which comes with new cars so wires dont get damaged.
all central locking is done and wires run. just gotta do a water test to check for leaks then carpet and seats go back in.
pulled apart most of the 308 also. still gotta decide what i want to do with it before i take block down to get started. think 355 stroker.
sorry, i must have missed the bit where you got a 308... or i forgot... either way: do tell!!!
355 will be hela fun, you got the dollars to complete it though? what are your ideas so far?
All you are doing is forcing the wires to bend at a different point.
Better still, take some notice of how late model cars are built. I used the factory loom tubes from a late model Subaru. If you drill the hole in the pillar way higher (or lower) than the one in the door, the wire does not have to bend much at all, it basically rotates. You can then drill a big hole in both the door and pillar and fit the loom tube to run the wires through. It will be water tight too. It works for every other manufacturer in the world.
haha yeah i dont think i posted when i got it. must of been in hat stage when i didnt come on for ages.
got a 308 out of a vl which was an old mans car so wasnt thrashed. some guy wanted to put 6 turbo in it so got it for 350 + case of beam.
it was half pulled apart when i got it but all bits are there.
ill get some pics soon.
